XDA-Developers have shared the beta Android 5.0.1 build with the media and developer community

Google’s Nexus 6 was the first device to get the Android Lollipop update late last year. Samsung has started rolling out the new OS, although slowly, to its Galaxy S5, S4 and S3 devices. The Korean company is giving equal attention to the Galaxy Note Edge and Note 4. Lollipop update for the Note 4 was hampered by the Gear VR support.

Galaxy Note Edge official Lollipop release nearing

Faryaab Sheikh of SamMobile recently said that the Note 4 ROM is in the hands of Oculus VR team, who were “tweaking the kernel” to make it compatible with Samsung’s Gear VR headset. The Galaxy Note Edge, which has no compatibility with Gear VR, hasn’t received the Lollipop update either. Now a leaked beta Android 5.0.1 build has appeared for the Note Edge.

XDA-Developers have shared the beta version of Android 5.0.1 Lollipop with the media and developers. Complete with TouchWiz features, the build number XXU1BOA2 was created on January 29. The firmware  will reportedly work with the SM-N915FY (European version) and the SM-N915F models of the Note Edge. Leaked details show that the TouchWiz tweaked Lollipop has a slightly different theme and menu layouts than the stock Lollipop.

Flash the ROM at your own risk

The beta build likely has a few bugs left to be ironed out. According to GSM Arena, a user reported deep sleep bug. That means you have to manually set the minimum CPU frequency to 300MHz to mitigate the problem. If you want to flash the ROM, make sure you have backed up the device. Galaxy Note Edge owners can flash the firmware with ODIN 3.09 without tripping Knox. You can easily go back to Android KitKat without much hassle.

It’s an official build from Samsung rather than a third-party, so flashing the ROM won’t void your Galaxy Note Edge’s warranty. But it is still in beta with several issues and bugs, so flash the ROM at your own risk.
