Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:0059935) is still rolling out its latest Galaxy Note 4 in several countries. But rumors around its next flagship phablet Galaxy Note 5 have started gaining momentum. A new report from PhoneArena claims that the Galaxy Note 5 will sport a 4K display with 743ppi pixel density.
Galaxy Note 5 to have 5.9-inch display
For well over a year, Samsung has been teasing its 4K technology, which is currently under development. Last year, the company revealed that it would launch QHD display, followed by 560ppi pixel density and them 4K resolutions. The company launched Galaxy Note 4 with QHD display. PhoneArena has learned that the Korean electronics giant will start mass production of 5.9-inch Ultra HD (4K) Super AMOLED display with 743ppi pixel density in August 2015.
That time-frame is in line with Samsung’s annual Galaxy Note refresh cycle. So, the 5.9-inch UHD display with 3480 x 2160 resolution is meant for the Galaxy Note 5. If the report turns out to be true, it will take display clarity to a whole new level. The current Galaxy Note 4 has already boasts of sporting the “best smartphone display ever.”
Bringing 4K technology to smartphones isn’t impossible for Samsung, which has already launched TV sets with 4K resolution. The Korean company’s timeline also suggests that the UHD technology is up for launch next year. The Galaxy Note 5 will most likely be announced at the annual IFA event in 2015. That means Samsung still has about 10 months to fully develop the technology.
A few hurdles to the 4K technology in Galaxy Note 5
A 4K UHD technology sounds great. But it has its own challenges. Such a high-resolution display will consume a lot of battery. So, the device will have to pack extra large battery. Further, app developers will also have to redesign their apps so that they work well with the UHD resolutions. It would be interesting to see whether the 4K Galaxy Note 5 arrives with an inflated price tag.
Besides its amazing display, the Galaxy Note 5 is expected to pack a super-powerful Snapdragon 810 processor with 64-bit architecture and 4GB RAM. Rumors point to a 21-megapixel main camera, 6-megapixel front snapper with full HD images and 4,000mAh battery.
