Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Said To Sport Metal Casing

Updated on

The Galaxy Note 4 is expected to be launched at some point this fall, and now we’re hearing that one version of the handset could have a metal casing. Fans of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930)’s products have been clamoring for a smartphone with a metal casing for some time.

The latest Galaxy Note 4 rumors

This new set of rumors comes from ET News, which cites unnamed sources. The Korean website states that the casing of the upcoming Galaxy Note 4 will not only have a metal casing but also a flexible display and a 16-megapixel camera that comes with optical image stabilization. Previous models had 12-megapixel cameras.

ET News says it’s unclear exactly which type of metal Samsung will use for the casing. The website said the Korean electronics giant has been experimenting with a number of choices for materials, like plastic, aluminum, magnesium and stainless steel. In addition it said just the premium version of the Galaxy Note 4 will probably have a metal case, suggesting that there will be two versions—a standard and a premium one—and that the standard model will still have the same plastic casing as previous models.

How big will the Galaxy Note 4 be?

Display sizes have become a hot topic among smartphone vendors. At this point, it’s unknown what size of display the Galaxy Note 4 will have. ET News does report though that Samsung has increased production of flexible displays be over half. The company has already been using flexible displays for its Galaxy Round device, so adding one to the Galaxy Note 4 may not be that much of a surprise. However, it’s possible that Samsung will follow suit with the launch of the Galaxy Round by keeping the smartphone with the flexible display exclusive to its home country of South Korea.

Previous rumors have suggested that the company will release two versions with two different sizes.
