Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) is currently testing the self-destructing Facebook post, a feature that allows users to schedule the deletion of their messages on Facebook iOS app.

The social network giant released the new feature to a small group of users on Facebook iOS app. Some users noticed the availability of the self-destructing post on their mobile devices. In fact, some of the users tweeted and asked if Facebook added a new post-expiration option.

Facebook confirms experiment

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) confirmed that it was conducting an experiment on self-destructing post. A spokesperson for the social network giant said, “We’re running a small pilot of a feature on Facebook for iOS that lets people schedule deletion of their posts in advance.”

With the new feature, users have the option to keep their Facebook post for one hour or one week. After that, the post will be deleted automatically.

Facebook recently launched Slingshot app

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) normally rolls out new features to a small number of users to obtain feedback and evaluate whether it will become popular or not. In June, the social network giant introduced Slingshot, a new app similar to Snapchat, and it is intended to attract the interest of young people.

At the time of the launching of Slingshot, Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) stated that its objective with the app is to “build something where everybody is a creator, and nobody is just a spectator.” According to the social network giant, “When everyone participates, there’s less pressure, more creativity and even the little things in life can turn into awesome shared experiences. This is what Slingshot is all about.”

Slingshot is considered by many as a self-destructing message service, but Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) does not limit the time as to when a message disappears, unlike Snapchat. The app allows users to send messages to friends, but they can only see it if they send one back. The Slingshot message will self-destruct once a user taps it off to the side of the screen of their device.

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) recently updated Slingshot with new features such as the Reactions to Reactions, which allows users to post a reply or reaction to a reaction using an image, video or text.
