Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) has fixed an issue that plagued News Feed for users around the world on Sunday. Thousands of users around the world experienced a major outage. Many said that they were able to use the social network, but the News Feed didn’t show any content. For some users, the News Feed would load, but it won’t show more than 4-5 status updates from friends or pages.

The issue affected Facebook’s desktop as well as mobile users

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) users said on Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) that the site showed placeholder images where the status updates from friends and pages should be. On Mobile devices, the News Feed showed a message “No content in this Feed.” Though for some users, older, cached content still showed. But the issue has been fixed. Facebook told The Next Web that it has fixed the problem.

Last month, the Menlo Park-based company unveiled a redesigned News Feed with some tweaks. The redesigned News Feed ensures consistent usage across platforms as the mobile and desktop interfaces look the same.

Facebook vows to weed out spammy posts

Earlier this month, the social networking giant announced that it will clean up the News Feed to weed out spammy posts. Users have voiced against low-quality, irrelevant, spammy posts that flood their News Feeds. The company said it will counter three types of spam: spammy links, Like-baiting, and frequently circulated content.

Despite reports that users are spurning Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), user engagement is actually increasing. The company said during its Q1 earnings call that 63% of its users access the site on any given day, and 50% check Facebook at least six days a week. As a result, its first quarter revenue soared 72%, and mobile advertising accounted for 59% of its total ad revenue.

Facebook Inc shares skidded 4.19% to $55.29 at 12:40 PM EDT on Monday.
