Mark Zuckerberg originally called his social network The Facebook when he launched it in 2004. A hilarious spoof ad created by stand-up comedian Brent Weinbach imagines how awesome The Facebook would have been if it launched in 1995. At the time, the Internet was kind of the Wild West. Chatrooms, message boards and newsrooms were huge. Apps and social media were almost nonexistent.

The Facebook is Macintosh and IBM compatible

The fake Facebook commercial is actually a parody of the classic America Online ad in 1995. It promises ‘risk-free trial’ for The Facebook. The ad features some amazing dialogues that seem weird today, but give us a perspective on how far we have come in the last two decades. And we are fortunate that The Facebook came in 2004 rather than 1995.

A cheesy voice-over man says, “Every day The Facebook is making it easier for people to live, cleanse, work and play.” Our hero informs his buddy that he can just click on his mom’s profile and say “Happy Birthday” on The Facebook because it’s the same thing as sending her a package. The hero explains how one can set-up The Facebook profile. The best thing? It is IBM and Macintosh compatible.

Call 1-800 number to get access to The Facebook

“Simply ship a few photographs to The Facebook, they’ll cover the postage, and an operator will set up your profile.” Th ad urges you to call a 1-800 number to gain access to The Facebook, which is a “new way to use a computer to communicate, have fun, and get instant news and information.” It’s almost shot-for-shot parody of the original America Online (AOL) ad.

But now Facebook has come a long way. It has more than 1.2 billion active users around the world. The company has acquired WhatsApp, which now boasts of over 700 million users. Facebook’s photo-sharing platform Instagram has more than 300 million users. And yes, you don’t have to call 1-800 number to join any of them.
