Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO Elon Musk was the secret buyer who purchased the James Bond Lotus submarine, according to Jalopnik. So what would he want with such a thing? Yes, you guessed it. He wants to put a Tesla motor into it and turn it into a James Bond car.
Elon Musk grew up watching James Bond
Elon Musk’s public relations representative provided a statement to Jalopnik, saying that he was amazed when he was a child watching James Bond drive the vehicle off a pier, push a button and then have it turn into a submarine when it hit the water. The vehicle is a Lotus Esprit, and it was used in the movie The Spy Who Loved Me. He said he was disappointed to learn that in reality, the vehicle can’t transform. He now wants to upgrade the Lotus Esprit by adding an electric powertrain from Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) and attempt to make it actually transform, just like in the movie.
After Elon Musk is done with it, he wants the vehicle to be en electric submarine Bond car.
Elon Musk as Iron Man
This certainly wouldn’t be the first time the Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO was inspired to create something based on a movie. Many have compared him to Tony Stark of Iron Man fame. He built a design suite which allows engineers to use hand gestures to design rocket parts and then print them out in titanium. The suite is in use at his other venture SpaceX, and he said he got the inspiration for it from the Iron Man movies, in which something like it is featured.
Many call many of Elon Musk’s ideas crazy, but they always seem to end up working. And although he has said that he has no plans to build the Iron Man suit, he certainly has Tony Stark’s eccentric billionaire persona going on in his desire to create the submersible Bond car from the movie.
