Tesla fans are well aware of the online configuration studio for Model S and Model X. Building an online configurator is never easy. Even Tesla took a lot of time to put its Model X configuration studio online. But one Tesla enthusiast is unwilling to wait for an official Model 3 configurator, and has instead built an unofficial one. The online configuration studio lets you toggle between features like paint jobs and wheel options to configure your dream car.
Creator to add more options to Model 3 design studio
Electrek reports that Tesla Motors Club member Bayol has built a bare bone configurator Model3Config.com. This unofficial design studio is based on a picture of Model 3 prototype taken by Joseph Neuman. In April, Bayol created about a dozen renderings from the EV maker’s promo shots of Model 3 to let reservation holders see the vehicle in a variety of colors.
Bayol is a Tesla fan and an eager Model 3 reservation holder. Though the design studio is light on the content right now, the creator has promised to add more configuration options soon, including the interior. Currently, it lets you choose only the wheels and exterior colors. Some colors included in the unofficial design studio are widely expected to make it to the production version of the car, based on Elon Musk’s comments. But many other color options may not arrive.
Tesla hires Audi exec as its production head
Though Tesla has set July 1, 2017 production deadline for Model 3, its founder Elon Musk has admitted that the deadline was impossible to meet. The vehicle won’t enter production until late 2017 at the earliest. The California company admits that the mass-market car’s design might change before it enters mass production. So, Bayol’s online configuration studio is merely a fun exercise for Tesla fans and enthusiasts as they wait for the official one.
The Palo Alto-based company aims to ramp up production to 500,000 units by 2018 to meet the massive consumer demand for Model 3. The company has hired Peter Hochholdinger of Audi as its Vice-President of Vehicle Production to boost production at the Fremont facility and develop a manufacturing program to meet the company’s 2018 production target.
