Cisco and Equinix Partners to Expand Intercloud

Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) and Equinix Inc (NASDAQ:EQIX) announced its partnership to develop private cloud solutions for enterprise customers. The solution is designed to extend hybrid cloud performance, security and manageability up to the application layer.

The companies plan to create a hosted private cloud solution for the Intercloud, which would use the Equinix Cloud Exchange. Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) intends to deploy Intercloud-enabled capabilities to the data centers of Equinix Inc (NASDAQ:EQIX) worldwide.

Equinix will become Cisco’s preferred supplier

According to Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO), Equinix Inc (NASDAQ:EQIX) will become its preferred supplier as it expands its Intercloud capabilities. Equinix will be offering access to Cisco Cloud Services to its global platform of International Business Exchange (IBX) data centers.

It will also deploy Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) within the Equinix Cloud Exchange infrastructure to deliver application-driven policy control.

Equinix Inc (NASDAQ:EQIX) also plans to deploy the main hardware and software elements Cisco ACI architecture including the Nexus 900 Series Switch and APIC Controllers to its data centers.

Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) said Equnix Inc (NASDAQ:EQIX) already integrated elements of the Cisco Evolved Services Platform (ESP) to the Equinix Cloud Exchange to provide real-time automation for service provisioning, over physical and virtual networks. ESP is a comprehensive, open orchestration and virtualization software.

Equinix will bring global data center footprint to Cisco Intercloud

Nick Earle, senior vice president, cloud managed services at Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) said the company’s partnership with Equinix Inc (NASDAQ:EQIX) will “create a robust destination” for enterprise customers to experience the full benefits of the Intercloud.

“Equinix will bring its global data center footprint and interconnection capabilities to the Cisco Intercloud partner ecosystem—a move that will help shorten the distance between public and private clouds for enterprise customers,” added Earle.

On the other hand, Ihab Tarazi, chief technology officer at Equinix Inc (NASDAQ:EQIX) said “By connecting Cisco Intercloud and Cloud Exchange, we are adding policy, performance, security and visibility all the way to the application level, removing performance concerns sometimes associated with hybrid cloud services.”

In addition, Tarazi emphasized, “Elasticity is essential for enterprises, and by providing a private, high-bandwidth, highly secure infrastructure, we’re allowing enterprises to achieve their vision of a truly elastic cloud.”

Separately, Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) announced more than 30 additional Intercloud partners today. According to the company, its new partners bring the reach of Intercloud to 250 additional data centers in 50 countries around the world.
