Weeks after Apple unveiled its latest and greatest smartphone iPhone X, Google announced the second generation Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones. The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are the last major smartphone releases of the year. The iPhone X is Apple’s by far most innovative smartphone in years. It has a beautiful new design, an incredibly powerful A11 Bionic processor, and an OLED display. The Pixel 2 XL has a giant 6-inch display with slim bezels, and comes with the latest Android Oreo software. It doesn’t have an all-screen display like iPhone X, but it could still be a better buy than the 10th-anniversary iPhone. Here are all the reasons why you should buy Google Pixel 2 XL rather than the iPhone X.
At the October 4 event, Google proudly announced that the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL camera had achieved a record-breaking score of 98/100 points on DxOMark. The Pixel 2 camera outperformed the iPhone 8 Plus and Galaxy Note 8 by a significant distance. The iPhone X camera hasn’t been tested yet, but it is expected to be only slightly better than the iPhone 8 Plus because it features dual optical image stabilization. Anyway, DxOMark has found that the Pixel 2 XL has a wonderful camera. But that’s not the only reason to buy Google Pixel 2 XL.
You’ll never run out of storage
The Pixel 2 XL comes in 64GB and 128GB storage options. The iPhone X, on the other hand, packs 64GB and 256GB of storage. Neither phone has a microSD card slot. But with the Pixel 2 XL, you are never going to run out of storage. We know that photos and videos consume most of the storage space on a smartphone. While Apple gives iPhone users only 5GB of free cloud storage, Google is giving Pixel owners unlimited cloud storage for photos and videos.
It stores your pictures in original resolution, without compromising on the image quality. It gives you a sense of relief that you can take as many pictures as you want without having to check how much storage is left on the device.
You get a far more advanced AI assistant
Apple gave its voice assistant Siri a major overhaul with the iOS 11. Siri is now smarter than ever, but it’s not as smart as Google Assistant. The search engine giant has tightly integrated the Assistant with almost every aspect of the Pixel 2 XL. You can activate it in split seconds by gently squeezing the sides of the phone. Google uses an HTC U11-like Active Edge technology to activate the voice assistant.
The Google Assistant can recognize objects in front of you by using the phone’s camera, and provide you more details on it. It also offers real-time language translation, allowing two people speaking different languages to be able to communicate with each other in real time. Siri has a long way to go before it can catch up with Google Assistant.
Pixel 2 XL is more affordable
Another reason to buy Google Pixel 2 XL is that it’s a real value for money. The phone costs $849 for the 64GB version and $949 for the 128GB model. You are also getting free unlimited cloud storage. The iPhone X, on the other hand, has a starting price of $999 for the 64GB model. It costs $150 more than the 64GB Pixel 2 XL. If you want to buy the 256GB model, you will have to fork out $1,149. The Pixel 2 XL is a more sensible buy, though Apple CEO Tim Cook argues that the iPhone X with its thousand dollar price tag is “value for money.”
Pixel 2 XL comes with Google Lens
Instead of competing on hardware, Google has differentiated its products through software and services. Google Lens is one such example. It’s a built-in object recognition tool. You can point your phone’s camera at books, business cards, landmarks, restaurants, movie posters, etc., and Google Lens will fetch all the details on the object for you. For instance, pointing it at a dog will provide you details on what kind of dog it is.
Microphone and the Always-On display
The Pixel 2 XL comes with an Always-On display, something the iPhone X lacks despite featuring an OLED screen. Google’s latest flagship displays time and notifications at all times. You don’t have to pick up your phone or unlock it to see notifications. The Pixel 2 XL also listens for any music playing nearby, identifies the song and displays the title and album on the lock screen. It works pretty much like Shazam, except that you’ll not have to open an app.
It makes sense to buy Google Pixel 2 XL rather than shelling out an additional $150 for the iPhone X. Since Google controls all the aspects of Pixel 2 XL, it has tightly integrated the software and hardware to deliver enhanced performance.
