BlackBerry has not yet officially announced the DTEK60, but NCIX is already taking pre-orders for it. The device is listed on the Canadian retailer’s website with a price tag of C$700 (around US$535) with a launch date of October 11, according to a report from GSM Arena.

Better to wait for official announcement

NCIX also posted several official images of the device. However, it would be best to take all this information with a grain of salt until BlackBerry makes an official announcement. BlackBerry’s phone, which has already cleared the FCC, has been the subject of some leaks and rumors in the last couple of weeks.

Based on the leaks, the device is powered by a Snapdragon 820 chipset and sports a 5.5-inch Quad HD display. The device is expected to come with 4GB of RAM and 32Gb of built-in storage. The front camera is said to be 8MP, while the rear camera is 21MP. It is expected to come with a powerful 3,000mAh battery, and there is rumored to be a fingerprint sensor and also a touchscreen with intuitive gesture-based navigation.

Disrupted BlackBerry will revive itself

BlackBerry recently announced that it would outsource the future development of its hardware to partners, and this will help it focus on the software side of its business instead. For CEO John Chen, this means shifting gears and thinking about how the company will revive itself after being disrupted, notes Mobile Syrup

Chen, who appeared on the show The Disruptors last week, discussed issues like BlackBerry’s legacy in the tech industry and how the company is planning to revive itself in the tech industry. Chen, who became CEO of BlackBerry in 2013, said that the company’s hardware had made a lot of impact, but he believes that consumers often underestimate what the company has done and what it actually is capable of doing.

Chen said he is concentrating on improving the software business because this will help the company and consumers get in the mindset of seeing BlackBerry grow once again.

“What we’re doing and what we can do will be much beyond just that device. We’ll go much beyond that,” Chen said.

BlackBerry has seen both successes and failures, and therefore, Chen offered advice to other companies that fear getting disrupted and losing their position in the tech industry.

“The hardest thing to do is recognize that your current model needs changing,” the CEO said.

BlackBerry has long struggled with this it had its main focus on its success and not enough on what could possibly go wrong, Chen said.
