BlackBerry Ltd Blend To Debut Along With Passport [REPORT]

Updated on

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) will supposedly release the BlackBerry Passport smartphone pre-loaded with BB Blend, a new software feature, says a report from KnowYourMobile.  The new software could narrow the gap between BlackBerry phones and other devices, which is encouraging, as other platforms don’t offer this feature.

BlackBerry Blend offers storing and backup

The BlackBerry Blend feature allows the user to access the files on the smartphone from a different device that supports BBM, calendar, SMS messages, emails, files and more. The new feature will allow the user to use anything stored on the BlackBerry device and also create calendar events directly. The concept is very similar to using a browser and opening a company’s intranet for BlackBerry Blend users in a corporate environment. Employers and employees will be at ease while sharing and discussing tasks over Blend, which offers more options to work with documents from a BB phone or the company’s intranet.

Another important feature offered by the software is apparently backing up and restoring data, which is a useful feature for business phones or work networks. BlackBerry Desktop and Link offers backing up and restoring files, but within Blend, these features are blended together.

OS supported by Blend

The Canadian company will offer Blend for OS 10.3-enabled and upper devices, and Passport is expected to come with the software built-in. For PCs, the operating systems supported are Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.7 and better. On mobile devices, Blend will run on iOS 6 and Android 4.4 and higher. There has not been any concrete announcement over the software, so market watchers are taking the rumor with a grain of salt.

Blend’s full list of specifications reveals that the software could access and reply to messages and chats from various BlackBerry Hub accounts. It could also access BBM chats, groups and BBM channels. Users can look into their daily, weekly or monthly agenda and create new entries on their calendar. Also they can copy and transfer files between their computer and tablet and open a secure connection to take a look into their private information if the device is connected to BlackBerry Enterprise server 10. If a user has any uncompleted task in their BlackBerry desktop software or BlackBerry Link, then that can be completed with BlackBerry Blend. Other functions that can be performed are copying videos and music between a computer or tablet and a BlackBerry 10 device.
