It’s official! Samsung has just added a seventh color option to its flagship Galaxy S7 Edge. The Korean electronics giant announced that a new “Black Pearl” Galaxy S7 Edge will be available in “select markets” starting Friday, December 09. However, the company did not reveal pricing or specific launch markets. The Black Pearl finish will be exclusive to the 128GB version of the S7 Edge.
Black Pearl Galaxy S7 Edge to challenge Jet Black iPhone 7
Images of the Galaxy S7 Edge in the new color option were leaked by a Chinese tipster last month. Samsung launched the Black Pearl variant of its flagship smartphone just a few months after Apple’s Jet Black iPhone 7 and 7 Plus took the smartphone world by storm. Jet Black iPhone 7 and 7 Plus owners have described the color as the most visually appealing devices that they have ever used.
It seems more than a coincidence that Samsung introduced its own Jet Black under the name Black Pearl soon after the release of Jet Black iPhone 7. Apple does not own patent for glossy black smartphones. So, there is little chance it would sue Samsung for this. It is not the first time Samsung took inspiration from Apple. The Korean electronics giant had introduced Pink Gold color after Apple released Rose Gold iPhone 6S.
With the release of Black Pearl color option, the Galaxy S7 Edge is now available in seven finishes, the others being: Black Onyx, White Pearl, Gold Platinum, Blue Coral, Silver Titanium, and Pink Gold. All of the existing colors have proved popular with consumers. The Black Pearl S7 Edge looks as good as the Jet Black iPhone 7.
Difference between Black Pearl and Black Onyx
So, what’s the difference between Black Pearl and Black Onyx? Samsung says the latest finish was “designed to be modern and striking.” The Black Pearl variant has a full-body black finish, including the metal edges. Samsung said in a statement that the new color adds “more depth” to the phone’s back glass that “captures the essence of the color in its purest form.”
Should you buy the new Black Pearl Galaxy S7 Edge? The Korean electronics giant has not revealed pricing or launch markets. But Samsung’s next-gen flagship smartphone Galaxy S8 is just a few months away, expected to hit the store shelves in March.
The Galaxy S8 with edge-to-edge display, virtual home button, Harman stereo speakers, Viv AI assistant, and other features will certainly be better than Galaxy S7 Edge. Samsung is also reportedly planning to ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack with the Galaxy S8 in favor of a USB Type-C port.
