Barnes & Noble Releases Nook Apps For Android And iOS In The U.K.

More than 2.5 million books, magazines, and other publications are available on the NOOK store. The store even carries a wide selection of self-published titles through NOOK’s PubIt! Program. Many free samples of NOOK books are available, and users can also sample digital periodicals free for up to two weeks.

New NOOK Features

The updates to the NOOK apps include the addition of the Smart NOOK Sync feature, which enables customers to sync their library while they are out and about. By syncing their library, users can find the last page they read, see their bookmarks and notes, or start reading a book on their NOOK and then read for a while on their iPad, iPhone, or Android smartphone without losing their page. Because Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS) adopted a variety of open standards, like Adobe and EPUB formats, users are able to easily switch platforms in the middle of the book they are currently reading.

In addition, NOOK has added a wider range of language support, now covering Spanish, German, Italian, French, and British English. Users can also easily search the book they’re reading, add books or notes, and look up words in a dictionary that’s built in. The updated app also features pinch and zoom for easy navigation and so that users can increase the size of the words on the page if they need to.

NOOK’s Magazines app offers users print-style layouts of magazines and the ArticleView feature, which makes it possible to focus only on the text on any page of a magazine.

NOOK Launches In The U.K. Market

The NOOK itself was launched in the U.K. within the past month. Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS) initially released its NOOK Simple Touch and then earlier this week began offering the NOOK HD and HD+ this week in the U.K.. The bookseller has plans to release its video download and rental store in the U.K. sometime next month.
