Some rumors regarding Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s budget iPhone initially predicted that the upcoming phone would feature a 4.5 inch display but a new report indicates it will have a 4-inch display just like the iPhone 5.
These details of were released by Ming-Chi Kuo (KGI Securities) to AppleInsider. It’s reported that the specs for the budget-friendly phone were initially decided two years ago. Since the iPhone has had a four-inch display all this time, it doesn’t appear that is going to change.
According to Kuo, the new budget Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) smartphone will feature a plastic and glass-fiber casing, which will make it stronger and more durable than traditional plastic case. It will also be much thinner. Kuo speculated the particular phone will feature thickness ranging from 0.4 to 0.6 millimeters.
The budget Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) phone will also be available in a range of color color options, much like the current iPod lineup.
For those who are waiting for the iPhone 5S, Kuo predicts that it should arrive sometime this year. He also predicts it will feature a handy fingerprint sensor that will reduce the need for enter passwords and make it easier for users to make secure purchases through e-wallet Passbook.
A budget iPhone would make it easier for budget shoppers to obtain the popular smartphone. It’s important to point out that a lower-end smartphone probably will still be a bit more expensive than lower-end Android smartphones. Another important factor to consider is carriers. It’s highly unlikely the budget iPhone will be available through pre-paid services, so consumers may still end up paying more than they initially thought for the budget phone if it’s available exclusively with a two-year contract.
If Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s plans to release a budget iPhone are true, this could be a boon for the company. It could also detract sales from their competitor Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) as well as other budget phone makers.
