It has been almost a year since the launch of Apple’s first smartwatch. Though the Cupertino company never revealed the official sales numbers, various reports indicate that the Apple Watch sold 3 million units in the first three months. Latest rumors suggest that the iPhone maker is gearing up to launch Apple Watch 2 in March, alongside the 4-inch iPhone 6C, iPad Air 3 and a refreshed MacBook.
New Watch to have a variety of sensors
The new Watch is expected to bring a number of improvement over its predecessor. It is safe to assume that the Apple Watch 2 would come with a new selection of designs and band colors, including round clock faces. Regarding release, the wearable device is expected to follow the same annual upgrade cycle as the iPhone, meaning it would hit the store shelves in April.

A report from TechTimes claims that the Apple Watch 2 will include a front-facing FaceTime camera and sensors for skin conductivity, blood pressure and blood oxygen levels that were not available in the first Apple Watch. However, any health-focused sensor that would require FDA oversight is unlikely to be included in the Apple Watch 2. The wearable device loses much of its usefulness when the iPhone is not around. But this would no longer be the case as the next-gen Watch is rumored to become with a WiFi chip.
Apple Watch 2 to offer better battery life?
The 2016 Apple Watch is also reported to be slimmer than its predecessor. Users expect the Apple Watch 2 to offer better battery life. The current Apple Watch as 8GB of built-in storage, which is sufficient for WatchOS 1 that runs lightweight companion apps tethered to the iPhone. Since watchOS 2 allows for dedicated apps, Apple fans want the next-gen Watch to have at least 16GB of storage.
Recently, Apple Insider reported that the Cupertino company was looking for a second manufacturer for the new Apple Watch besides Quanta Computer. Apple is currently in talks with Wistron, Foxconn, and Inventec for the new Watch.
