Despite the initial buzz regarding the in-house maps application that came with iOS 6, many consumers were still dismayed by a lack of distinctive features on city maps, something that made it less on par with the likes of Google maps. For once, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) failed, and Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) succeeded.
Now that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) knows what they need to deliver, they want to hire former Google Maps staff members to help them gain strength where they need it the most. One source claimed that the former Google employees who were contacted by Apple are taking the offer into serious consideration. It certainly helps that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has offered them an opportunity to make something fresh and new, rather than just add updates to the current program.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) launched their Maps application for iOS 6 last week and users were instantly unsatisfied that the app on the platform isn’t quite like it is on Google Maps. Apple’s version of the Maps app lacks many important features, like key details for the city maps, duplicate islands, and even places cities in wrong locations.
The good news is that Apple admitted their flaws, and they also promised to deliver more in the future regarding their mapping application.
Right now, there is no official word on whether Google’s former employees will join the Apple camp. There is some serious interest on both ends, but nothing is set in stone. One source, cited by TechCrunch, claims that at least one former Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) employee now works for Apple and they’re paid very well. Another former Google employee was recently offered $85,000 and moving expenses to come to Cupertino.
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) hasn’t confirmed that they’re looking to hire former Google employees, but if it is true, we can only hope that Apple will release a better Maps application before the arrival of spring.
