Apple’s iPhone 6 Could Meet A Challenger From China

Updated on

Although Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iPhone 6 has yet to arrive, there is already much speculation that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will soon meet a challenger from China. Huawei Technology Co Ltd (SHE:002502) recently unveiled their Ascend P6 smartphone, which is supposed the be the world’s thinnest smartphone. At the unveiling, the company’s chief executive officer Richard Yu Huawei said, “With our flagship phones we want to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5, 5S and iPhone 6. It is this level of product that is our target, [we want to] take a leadership on industry innovation.”

Apple's iPhone 6 Could Meet A Challenger From China

The iPhone is one of the hallmark products of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) (next to the iPad) and it’s no surprise that everyone wants to compete with it. The only company that’s had any real success in competing with the Cupertino-based company is Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930). It’s hard to imagine any company other than Samsung giving Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) real competition in the smartphone market. What’s more is that Huawei Technology Co Ltd (SHE:002502) isn’t a brand that’s well known in the United States. It’s even more hard to imagine a practically unheard of brand name offering competition for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), which is a highly popular brand.

Release Expectation For iPhone 5S and iPhone 6

The iPhone 5S has yet to make it’s debut but it’s predicted to come out sometime later this summer or early fall. The iPhone 6 most likely won’t come out until sometime next year.

Josh Smith for Gotta Be Mobile added, “We expect Apple plans to launch the iPhone 5S in September based on a variety of analyst commentary and supply chain leaks. The iPhone 5S will look like the iPhone 5 if the leaks are accurate, and is to be expected for an “S” release. The Huawei Technology Co Ltd (SHE:002502) Ascend P6 is an incredibly slim smartphone measuring in at 6.18mm thick, nearly 1.5mm thinner than the iPhone 5. The sleek smartphone received praise for the good looks and design, but poor marks for lagging performance, overheating and specs befitting a smartphone from 2012, rather than the middle of 2013. Apple isn’t playing a specs game to compete, opting for a smaller and lower-resolution display inside a good looking frame and great performance.”

There are a lot of high expectations for the iPhone 6 but it’s highly unlikely that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will disappoint. It’s really unlikely that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will have anything to worry about with Huawei Technology Co Ltd (SHE:002502).
