Intercarrier Communications recently filed a lawsuit against Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) over its FaceTime patent. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court in Virginia, and it states that Apple’s FaceTime and messages violate the ICC patent number 6,985,748.

CNET reports, “The patent in question refers to an “inter-carrier messaging service providing phone number only experience” and describes a method to send messages between different carriers using just a phone number.”

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) isn’t the only tech company that ICC is going after. The company also filed lawsuits against MobiWeb, Inerop Technologies, Iris Wireless, and Broadsoft this past week for the same patent violations.  It’s reported that ICC  wants an unspecified amount of money from Apple.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has yet to make an official statement regarding the lawsuit. It’s not surprising that ICC is going after the Cupertino-based company. Thanks to their wide range of successful of products, including the iPad, iPhone, and Macbook, Apple is worth a lot.

FaceTime is a popular feature on current iPhones and iPads, as it enables users to video chat face-to-face through the tablet. This application is easy to use, as users don’t need to set up anything. Users can press the FT button on available contacts, or tell Siri they want to chat with the specific contact. It’s just as easy to sign up for FaceTime, just use your Apple ID to sign in.

It’s no surprise that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) was slapped with another lawsuit, and it won’t be a surprise if they win this case as well. Apple has been hit with many lawsuits over the years and they’ve come out stronger each time. Right now, we have no more details regarding the lawsuit, but unless they can prove that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has stolen their specific patent for FaceTime, it doesn’t look like Apple will have anything to worry about.
