Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) tried to hide their mandatory Samsung apology on their United Kingdom website, but after receiving backlash from other websites like Reddit and Hacker News, they had to reveal their apology.
The company already got in trouble after initially posting a public “apology” that wasn’t a real apology. The UK courts then forced them to post another real apology. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) then changed their apology by using javascript to hide the message all the way down at the bottom of the website.
When the code was discovered, social media users on Reddit and Hacker News pointed out that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) was once again trying to circumvent the courts.
CNET stated that the code is still there even if it isn’t used anymore. They explained, “The code ensured that the iPad mini advertisement would take up the whole page; regardless of your resolution, you wouldn’t be able to see the statement without scrolling down the page.”
The whole ordeal started months ago, when the UK courts dropped Apple’s lawsuit against Samsung over patents regarding the iPad. The judge then claimed that Samsung’s tablet wasn’t as nearly as cool as the iPad and forced Apple to post a public apology to Samsung on their website. The world’s most valuable company then got in trouble over their first public apology, which was reported to be “untrue”. They gave them more time to remove the old statement and replace it with a new statement.
Apple’s new apology reads as the following, “On 25 October 2012, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) published a statement on its UK website in relation to Samsung’s Galaxy tablet computers. That statement was inaccurate and did not comply with the order of the Court of Appeal of England and Wales. The correct statement is at Samsung/Apple UK judgement.”
Apple has yet to make any statement regarding the situation.
