The iPad Mini 2 could be a little bit thicker than the previous version. It’s reported that the second generation iPad Mini will grow from 7.2 to 7.5 millimeters in thickness and 0.2 millimeters in width. This report comes from Macktakara’s interview with iPad case makers. This interview took place in Hong Kong during the China Sourcing Fair 2013.
iPad went thicker
9-to-5 Mac explained the possible downfalls, saying, “But it could potentially have a very minor trade-off: some extra thickness and width that will likely not be noticeable to the human eye. Just like the the full-sized iPad went thicker (and heavier in that case) to accommodate the much higher-resolution Retina display, the iPad mini could slightly bulk up to fit the new display, according to Macotakara. At a conference in China, the website went hands-on with some purported cases for the next-generation iPad mini. These cases fit a device with a thickness of 7.5mm and width of of about 0.2mm wider than the current iPad mini…”
iPad is the standard of tablets
Now that the iPhone 5S and 5C arrived, it’s time to shift focus to Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s tablets. The company has made a name for themselves in the mobile market and their products are in demand. The iPhone is the standard of smartphones and the iPad is the standard for tablets. Other tech companies have tried to emulate their success by creating similar devices, and most of the time, it’s been unsuccessful. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) has been one of the few companies to actually produce quality smartphones of the same caliber, but it’s also cost them a hefty price. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) have been duking it out in court over patents. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) wants to prevent Samsung from selling certain devices and extract money from them in the process. The battles still go on and it doesn’t look like either company is near a solution.
