Will Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iWatch blow us away with its innovative genius? Jay Yarow of Business Insider thinks it will, particularly after we saw Samsung’s smart watch on Wednesday.

Apple’s iPad followed HP’s tablet

He takes us back to the time when Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) and Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HPQ) rushed a tablet to market at the annual Consumer Electronics Show. Of course that tablet did not do well at all, and Business Insider said then that the tablet fight was essentially Apple’s to lose.

Not long after that, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) showed off its iPad, which became a marvel because of its ingenuity. The HP Slate was not even in the same league as Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s tablet, and it became easy to see why people weren’t impressed with HP’s tablet and why Apple had the upper hand even though it was a little bit late coming to the party. Some would say the company was simply fashionably late.

So will Apple repeat this story again with the smart watch? Yarow believes the company will.

Samsung unveils its smart watch

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) just unveiled its smart watch on Wednesday, and Yarow says it’s equally as unremarkable as HP’s Slate tablet was back in the day. He notes that the device looks somewhat like and iPad Nano with a watch band, which a few people started wearing toward the end of 2010, although it never really took out.

He said Samsung’s smart watch looks like nothing more than a shrunken smartphone attached to a wrist band and that there’s nothing revolutionary. As such, he thinks Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has a great opportunity to deliver an iWatch that’s not like anything that has been imagined before. Of course the device is unlikely to look like and may not even act like the smart watch unveiled by Samsung.

But we are probably going to wait longer to see Apple’s iWatch. A report recently said we won’t see it until the iPhone 6 comes out in the second half of next year. That’s quite a long wait after Samsung’s watch was released. Let’s hope it’s worth it.
