Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) may further revolutionize the future of smartphones. The Cupertino-based company recently filed a patent application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office that suggests a smartphone with “situational awareness”.

This possible innovative feature would allow the device to automatically perform specific tasks in specific situations. For instance, the device could adjust the volume or light when it’s not in use.

The patent filing further provided the details, “The electronic device is ready to perform the anticipated function without input from the user by using sensors to sense environmental attributes. The sensors can include an ambient light sensor, a force sensor, a temperature sensor, an ambient noise sensor, and a motion sensor.”

In order for this feature to work, it would rely on truth tables for each individual sensor. These tables are used by electronic devices in order to decide which actions to take depending on the given conditions.  This one particular patent covers many implementations which includes factors like how a vibrate mode would be based on ambient lighting or adjusting the volume on ambient noise.

This unique patent would provide a more intuitive user experience and thus be a huge benefit for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL).

The patent filing further indicates that the feature would predict or guess the user’s needs for the device. It would be ready to automatically perform whatever functions the user desires without having to select the menu options or activating a program.

It’s important to point out that this patent might not ever make it to the actual devices in the future. Sometimes, patents don’t get approved.

Since the feature will be highly customizable, where the user can set up the appropriate parameters to figure out what functions they trigger.
