Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is donating $2.5 million to the Red Cross to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Tim Cook recently sent an internal memo to all his employees at Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), announcing the company’s plan to donate $2.5 million to the Red Cross. Here is the following memo:

For the past week, our thoughts have been with those affected by Hurricane Sandy and its aftermath. And Apple employees and customers the world over have raised millions of dollars toward the relief effort so far. But, we can always do more.
That’s why, on behalf of all our employees, Apple is making a donation of $2.5 million to the American Red Cross to benefit Hurricane Sandy relief. We hope this contribution will help families, business, and communities recover and rebuild.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is also using iTunes to collect donations. One hundred percent of the proceeds go towards the cause.
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) isn’t the only tech company to donate to the Red Cross after Hurricane Sandy. Their top competitor, Samsung, also donated $3 million to the same cause.
It’s good to know that big corporations and tech companies are donating generous sums of money to help those in need. Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast late last month and it affected many states, including New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Massachussetts, Connecticut, and North Carolina. Many individuals, families, and businesses are still recovering from the aftermath of the storm, and it could take months before everything is back up and running.
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) efforts may be regarded by some as just a publicity stunt to make them appear altruistic, but I think Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) donated out of the kindness of their hearts. Now is not the time to question the efforts of companies who donate, I think it’s safe to say that most companies and people are feeling charitable right now.
