Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) was recently granted another patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
This particular patent is for a case for a mobile phone that reacts to the light squeeze or touch. This particular feature is called “Sensing capacitance” changes of the housing of an electronic device. Although this patent uses a mobile phone as an example, it’s possible that this feature could also work on other portable gadgets as well as laptops.
Currently, advanced technology reacts to the simple finger tap. This invention would make the design a little bit more complex by offering different reactions to the different levels of pressure.
The patent further explains, “By measuring the electrical characteristics of the housing, such as the housing’s capacitance, the user’s interaction with the housing can be measured in a manner that is independent of the user’s electrical characteristics and/or in a manner that may allow the pressure applied to the housing to be quantified.”
The phone would provide different reactions to different types of pressure. You could simply silence your phone by squeezing it or you could move your hand over the keyboard of the device to “wake” it up from sleep mode.
This patent would be an interesting one if it ever made it actually made it to the devices. Only time will tell if we will ever see an iPhone with squeezable technology.
A new feature like this could be one way to further revolutionize the technology they created. It could also be a way to build more interest in their products and brand. It might even bring up the value for the company.
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has been working hard in trying to improve the technologies to captivate the interest of consumers. With big competition from the likes of Samsung, it’s important for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) to remain at the top of their game.
