It was just a month ago that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) finally introduced the highly-anticipated iPad Mini tablet. Patently Apple reports that the company filed for a trademark for the new gadget through the U.S.  Patent and Trademark office.

The company described their tablet as a “handheld mobile digital electronic device comprising a tablet computer, electronic book and periodical reader, digital audio and video player, camera, electronic personal organizer, personal digital assistant, electronic calendar, and mapping and global positioning system (GPS) device, and capable of providing access to the Internet and sending, receiving, and storing messages and other data.”

The filing took place on November 15 and is now complete. This means all of Apple’s bases for the iPad Mini are fully covered.  The US Patent and Trademark Office just published Apple’s US filing under the application number 85780375. It’s under the international class 009 that’s covered by handheld mobile digital electronic product.

The iPad Mini features a 7.9 inch display, iOS 6, A5 Chip, FaceTime HD Camera,  and iSight Camera with 1080p HD Video recording.

Now that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has gotten a trademark for the iPad Mini, they can rest assured knowing that their product is covered, although that is no guarantee that their competitors won’t copy their patents. The company has been involved in many  patent lawsuits, most particularly with Samsung. It’s only a matter of time until Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) tries to file a lawsuit against a company over the iPad Mini.

The iPad Mini may just replace the iPhone 5 as gadget of the year but not without a price. Although there already are dozens of smaller budget friendly tablet computers on the market, we may see an influx of iPad Mini-inspired gadgets in the near future. It’s evident that the tablet market is trumping the personal computer market,  and now that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has set the standards again, competition could be brutal.
