Apple has its eyes set on the youngest set of customers. The company recently announced plans to re-launch a special games for kids feature within the app store.
It was nearly two years ago the company launched a Kids category which was designed to offer games and entertainment apps for the under 11-set. The category was curated by Apple editors to ensure only the best apps for each age group selected.
Apple App Store’s Kids Feature lists the best games for kids
The first showcase is called Family Time with Apps which shows parents the best apps for their young children and provides tips on how to select the best apps. Right underneath that is a section displaying three age groups including 5 & under, 6 to 8, and 9 to 11. The youngest age group section features apps for interactive storybooks and preschool games. The older age group sections feature platform games and puzzles. It also includes titles of popular games such as Club Penguin, LEGO Ninjago, and Thomas & Friends.
Perhaps even more important: this new section further differentiates the truly free games from the games which may require further payment.
This announcement comes right after Apple celebrated a very successful 2014. Apple’s senior vice president for Internet explained, “This year is off to a tremendous start after a record-breaking year for the App Store and our developer community. We’re so proud of the creativity and innovation developers bring to the apps they create for iOS users and that the developer community has now earned over $25 billion.”
The new section should provide parents with a peace of mind as they search for the right apps to keep their young ones entertained.
Apple attributed its success to innovations such as fitness-oriented HealthKit, programming language Swift, beta-tested program TestFlight. And with the upcoming Apple Watch, 2015 could be even bigger.
