AMD Appoints Dell Exec to Manage EESC Business

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NYSE:AMD) announced that appointment of Forrest Norrod as senior vice president and general manager of its Enterprise Embedded and Semi-Custom (EESC) business group.

Mr. Norrod will directly report to Dr. Lisa Su,  the new chief executive officer of Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NYSE:AMD). Dr. Su was recently appointed to lead the company early this month. She replaced Rory Read, who stepped down from his position.

AMD CEO says Norrod is an industry veteran

According to Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NYSE:AMD). Mr. Norrod will be responsible for managing all aspects of the EESC business including business management, engineering, sales, and strategy. Dr. Su led the EESC business on an interim basis since July.

Dr. Su said Mr. Norrod is an industry veteran with a “strong track record of establishing and growing businesses.” She is confident that Mr. Norrod will be able to help strengthen the leadership team of Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NYSE:AMD).

“Forrest’s unique combination of engineering, business management and technical expertise at both the chip and system level make him ideally suited to lead AMD into an expanded set of markets where our differentiated technology assets provide a competitive advantage,” said Dr. Su.

Work experience prior to joining AMD

Mr. Norrod recently served as vice president and general manager of the service business at Dell Inc. During his tenure at Dell, he helped the service business of the company to market share leadership in several key geographies.

Prior to managing Dell’s server business, Norrod served as vice president and general manager of Dell’s Data Center Solutions wherein he led the development of the company’s first internal start-up focused on the hyper-scale datacenter market. He also served as  CTO of Client Products and led the Enterprise Engineering and eventually the global engineering teams at Dell.

He also managed the x86 CPU business at Cyrix and National Semiconductor.

Mr. Norrod received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech. He holds 11 U.S. patents in computer architecture, graphics and system design.

AMD restructuring plan

Meanwhile, earlier this month, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NYSE:AMD) announced a restructuring plan to better position the company for long-term growth and profitability. The company said its restructuring plan include reducing its global workforce by 7% and aligning its real estate footprint with headcount, which will be implemented in the fourth quarter.
