Amazon Fire Phone Gets Negative Reviews

Updated on

Amazon has been enjoying an immense amount of success thanks the Kindle e-reader and Kindle Fire tablet, so it’s no surprise the e-tail giant wants to try their hand in the smartphone market. Earlier this month, the company introduced the Amazon Fire phone, which is essentially another Android-based phone with a decent range of features that differentiate it from similar devices. Here is a closer look at Amazon’s latest gadget.

Amazon Fire Phone Fire specs and features

The Fire smartphone features a 4.7 inch screen with a resolution of 1280px X 720px and Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor. It also comes with a 13Mp camera with local image stabilization,1080p video, Adreno 330 graphics processor, and five bands of 4G-LTE.

A recent review from Wall Street Journal Online shows that even with the aforementioned specs, the Amazon Fire phone may not be worth the purchase. According to Geoffrey A. Fowler (Personal Tech columnist for WSJ), the phone has poor battery life that would not even last a full day. The apps offered with this device are also quite limited. Certain Android apps like YouTube, Google Maps, and Google Drive are not available to Fire phone owners. This phone also can’t transfer purchases from other phones.

Amazon Fire Phone What the Fire phone lacks

One of Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN)’s touted features is Dynamic Perspective, but even that is disappointing. This feature uses four ultra low power specialized cameras and four infrared LEDs for invisible illumination. The problem with this feature is that it never seems to be as natural as touching the screen with your fingers.

The primary problem with this Amazon Fire Phone is the fact Amazon was a little too ambitious. Given the fact Amazon is considerably late in the game, it may have been better if the e-tailer/tech made the phone more budget-friendly or offered something useful like improved battery life. The company’s chief executive officer Jeff Bezos said he wanted to improve the smartphone experience. Although this phone has an impressive 32GB of storage, the rest of the phone is still lacking in many areas.
