As the FIFA World Cup nears, “like” each time there are favorites and forecasts about the team that would win. EA Sports FIFA was among the ones that rightly predicted the 2010 and 2014 champions – Spain and Germany respectively. They have come up with their predictions for this year’s world cup as well.

Here are their predictions: host Russia will be defeated by Spain 3-1 in the first round; France will knockoff defending champions Germany in the finals; Belgium would defeat Brazil 2-0 in the second round; Germany would win every match beating both Costa Rica and Colombia before trampling Spain 3-1 in semi-finals; Spain would come in third knocking off Belgium 2-1 in the runner-up game.

“Using FIFA 18, and brand new ratings from the 2018 FIFA World Cup update, we ran a simulation of the tournament from the group stage all the way through to the final in Moscow,” EA says in a blog post.

EA also predicts that France’s Antoine Griezmann and Spain’s Isco would be in a tight race for the Golden Boot award, whereas Antoine Griezmann would be awarded the best player of the tournament. According to EA’s FIFA predictions, though Spain would be eliminated from the semifinals, goalkeeper David De Gea would still get the Golden Glove. For the best young player, EA is betting on Gabriel Jesus.

Also, EA would launch the World Cup Predictor tool for the fans. The tool would enable the players to predict from their mobile, desktop or gaming console. Winners would also get prizes. On May 29, EA is promising free 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia mode for the owners of FIFA 2018 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

EA Sports releases a World Cup mode during the tournament year, honoring the biggest event in football on one of the biggest games. The World Cup mode was a big hit during the Brazil World Cup in 2014 as gamers across the world played the tournament to become champions.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup mode would be available as downloadable additional content rather than a separate title. Gamers would get a pop-up to download the new update as they logon to the game. As of now, EA has not revealed the size of the download, but those who played the 2014 world cup mode should be aware of the approximate space that should be freed up for the FIFA 18 World Cup Mode.

“The 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ update is available as a free content download to all FIFA 18 players on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC,” EA says.
