Electric scooters are growing as a popular mode of transportation for short distances. They are portable, environmentally friendly, hassle-free and add a fun element to the ride as well. The only drawback that has restricted them from going mainstream has been their price. Now this drawback has also been taken away by Gotrax with its GXL V2 commuting electric scooter.
The Gotrax GXL V2 electric scooter, costing under $250, is super budget friendly. The company also offers a “ride now, pay later” program, meaning you can pay $27 per month with no down payment.
Despite its lower price, it is as good as any other high-end electric scooter on the market. It is very easy to set up, even when you are doing it for the first time. The folding and unfolding are quick, thanks to the smart locking mechanism.
Another advantage of the GXL V2 is that it is lightweight (27 pounds), making it easy to carry around for short distances. It is easy to fold as well. When folded, its dimensions are 39 inches x 6 inches x 14 inches, making it compact enough to push under most furniture and take it with you on the bus and subway. Gotrax GXL V2 does not have a suspension setup. However, it does have air tires that will soak up any minor bumps you may encounter along the way.

Coming to the durability, the shell looks strong enough to withstand daily use. Moreover, it can hold a rider weighing up to 220 pounds, making it suitable for most body types and sizes. In terms of look, though, there is nothing special, yet it looks sleek and classy. The GXL V2 has no unnecessary knobs, levers, or switches. This scooter came fully assembled and was not hard to setup or get started.
It is not the first electric scooter from Gotrax, rather it is an upgrade over the original GXL. The GXL V2 replaces the electronic brake with a hand brake setup, and also adds a new safety bolt for a better folding mechanism. The traditional and easy-to-use hand lever for the break is much more natural, and allows you to ride in different positions.
Apart from the new safety bolt, the scooter offers a few more small features that make a big impact on the rider. One such feature is that the scooter won’t accelerate unless it is already moving. This is a key safety feature, which makes me comfortable having a scooter without a lock on it. Also, Gotrax has fitted the scooter with an “ultra-bright” headlight that would alert others of your presence and also help you see what’s in front of you in poor lighting conditions.
Overall, the Gotrax GXL V2 offers everything that an electric scooter rider would need. Though there are a few minor drawbacks, one can overlook them considering its great price point. You can buy it from Amazon or from Gotrax’s own site.
