2TB Xbox One S Sold Out; Microsoft Corporation Says It Was Limited Edition

Updated on

Microsoft’s recently launched 2TB XBox One S gaming console has sold out in most markets around the world. In a move that may disappoint Xbox fans, the software giant told GameSpot that the 2TB console was released “as a special launch edition in limited quantities only.” It means Microsoft doesn’t intend to manufacture the white 2TB Xbox One S. If you want to buy one, check with your local retailer if it’s still available in your market.

Microsoft to bring 2TB Gears of War 4 edition Xbox One S

Microsoft plans to release 1TB and 500GB versions of Xbox One S in the near future, though it’s not clear when. The company said it will be sharing details on other Xbox One S variations and bundles in the coming weeks. The Xbox One S is an impressive mid-cycle upgrade before the Project Scorpio arrives next year. It is smaller than the original Xbox One, supports 4K and HDR, and hides the power supply inside the case.

You shouldn’t be disappointed, though. The 1TB and 500GB versions of the console should arrive soon. If you need more storage, you can easily use an external hard drive. Also, there are several Xbox One S bundles in the pipeline, including the 2TB Gears of War 4 edition. On August 23, the Redmond-based company would bring 1TB Madden NFL 17 bundle, along with the 500GB and 1TB variants with Halo 5: Guardians and Halo: The Master Chief Collection bundles.

What Microsoft should have done

Matthew Humphries of Geek.com believes instead of making the 2TB Xbox One S a limited edition version, Microsoft should have made it the only model of the console. He argues that the extra storage space would encourage the Xbox One S owners to download more games and to buy more titles. It means they would be spending more money without having to worry about running out of storage space.
