Now that President Donald Trump has decided to end stimulus talks, Americans are unlikely to get checks before the election. However, this won’t prevent Orange County residents from getting another round of coronavirus stimulus checks.

Orange County is considering reopening the CARES application portal to give residents a one-time coronavirus stimulus check of $1,000, according to Fox35. The authorities have allocated $30 million to the Individual and Family Assistance Program.
“With the recent announcement by several employers of thousands of employee layoffs, it will no doubt accentuate the needs for crisis assistance to families in our community and we want to assist as many residents as possible with these relief dollars,” Jerry L. Demings, Orange County Mayor, said.
Previously, the authorities used the program to help 30,000 households by spending about $30 million. The application portal will now reopen on October 12 (at 8 am) and October 24 (at 8 am). About 10,000 applicants would be allowed to apply on each day.
Those applying should have a social security card and photo I.D. Also, they need to present documentation showing they were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Those who already got the payment under the program earlier are not eligible to reapply.
How to apply?
To be eligible for the $1,000 one-time coronavirus stimulus check you should reside in Orange County, Florida. Also, you should pay rent or your main residence must be in Orange County. Another requirement is that the applicant or any other adult in their household has lost a job or witnessed reduced work hours due to the coronavirus pandemic. One more requirement is that you need to be a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident.
Those who meet the above requirements need to complete the online application form. “Applicants are required to affirm and upload relevant documents to be considered for Orange County’s Individual and Family Assistance Program,” the program’s website says.
The authorities will then evaluate all the applications, and inform the applicants on their status. Those whose applications are accepted will get the direct payment via check through the mail.
Orange County received $243 million from the CARES Act, which was signed into law in March. Local governments are required to spend this fund before the end of the year or return the unused fund to Washington. As of last week, the county still had about $63 million left from the CARES Act fund.
So far, the county used the funds to provide personal protective equipment, such as face masks and hand-sanitizer, to residents and businesses. Also, the county helped workers who lost jobs during the pandemic, as well as businesses to pay rent. Additionally, about $36 million has been allocated for social service agencies and non-profits. Half of this is likely to go toward job training and food programs.
