The AFP Action represents the interest of Koch industries and its affiliates nationwide, and have famously spent in the hundreds of millions to influence lawmakers. The PAC who mostly backs Republican political candidates- have chosen Senator Lucio as the only Democrat in Texas they will support.
Senator Lucio's Track Record
Senator Lucio has a track record of supporting Republican led legislation that includes school vouchers, $800 million in DPS allocation for border security, votes anti-LGBTQ, is anti-choice, and voted to allow for the discharge of oil and gas into Texas waters.
“It’s disappointing that Senator Lucio continues to cozy up to conservative PAC’s and corporate donors, while Senate District 27 continues to be one of the poorest districts in Texas,” said Stapleton-Barrera. “South Texas needs bold progressive leadership that will represent the interest of working families, not the interest of outside corporate PAC’s who only seek to exploit low-income families across Texas.”
The Senator has traditionally counted with outside corporate donors to finance his campaigns. He consistently counts with financial support from Exelon, Exxon, BP, and members of the Walton family - just to name a few.
Stapleton-Barrera has taken a pledge not to accept any corporate PAC money this election cycle, while continuing to build a grassroots progressive coalition to back her efforts.
Stapleton-Barrera, a first time candidate, is seeking to replace the 30 year incumbent.
