Google is making big strides in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. The search giant has an AI product in almost every field and for every individual, including one for the artists in all of us. This product, called Google AutoDraw, was unveiled a couple of years ago, and it turns your rough art into beautiful pieces. If you don’t know how to use Google AutoDraw, then here is everything you need to know.
What is Google AutoDraw?
Google first introduced AutoDraw a couple of years ago as a web-based drawing tool. It works on your smartphone, tablet, laptop, desktop, etc. Google AutoDraw is free to use, and you don’t have to download anything to use it. Google’s drawing tool pairs machine learning with drawings from artists to help you create artwork.
All you have to do is scrawl anything on your mobile device with your fingers or PC using a mouse, and then Google’s drawing tool will identify what you are trying to draw and make it perfect. For instance, if you start to draw a pizza, the tool will first try to figure out what you are trying to draw, and then it finds the best match in its database.
It could give you more than one option for the pizza and show them at the top of the virtual canvas. If you find any of these options good enough, then you could replace it with your rough art.
Google AutoDraw uses similar technology as what is used in QuickDraw to guess what you are drawing. Once you have completed the drawing, you can download or share it with others. Like with any AI tool, AutoDraw also learns with each drawing, meaning its ability to guess what you are drawing improves with time.
Moreover, you can also use it like any other drawing app. For instance, you can use it to change colors, fill and resize objects, use different fonts, draw various shapes and more.
How to use Google AutoDraw
Now that you know what Google AutoDraw is, let’s see how to use Google AutoDraw. To use the tool, you will have to visit AutoDraw’s website from your phone, tablet or PC. On the site, you will be greeted with a logo and message, saying “fast drawing for everyone.”
To move forward, you have two options: Start Drawing and Fast How-To. First-time users can choose the second option to learn more about how the tool works, while others can choose Start Drawing straightaway.
Once you press the Start Drawing button, an empty sheet will open up for you to draw on. The tool has an MSPaint-style interface, so it is easy to use. Once you start drawing, the suggestions toolbar below the address bar will show recommendations from drawings already stored in its database.
If you feel any of the suggestions aptly represents the image you are drawing, all you have to do is click on it. Once you click it, the image you were drawing will automatically be replaced with the one you clicked on.
You can then add text, change colors and add shapes using the tools on the left side of the interface. After you are done creating a masterpiece, you can download it as a PNG file. You also share the image or use it at your leisure.
Use AI to explore fashion
Google also recently announced an AI experiment involving fields like fashion and dance. Last month, Google created two new web apps that are available on the web, iOS and Android.
The first app is Runway Palette. It organizes the work of about 1,000 fashion designers by color. According to the search giant, it worked with a publication called Business of Fashion to develop the app. Using the publication’s photo collection of over 140,000 photos from about 4,000 fashion shows, the search giant used machine learning to organize images of dresses by color.
You can use the app in two ways. The first is through an interactive visualization tool, and the second is by photographing a dress, for which the app will show you something similar.
“You can even snap or upload a picture of, let’s say, your closet, or autumn leaves, and discover how designers used a similar color palette in fashion,” the search giant states.
The second experimental app is Living Archive, which is a dance choreography tool. Like the first app, it also uses a database to show your results. This app includes about half a million poses from popular British choreographer Wayne McGregor. You can use the app to create and capture dance routines.
“Use the experiment to make connections between poses, or capture your own movement to create your very own choreography,” Google says.
Google isn’t the only company that is working on integrating AI with fashion. In September, Facebook also talked about an AI tool that could help you decide how to tweak your dress to make it more stylish.
