Ubisoft announces first games for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett

After Sony announced the new-generation gaming console PlayStation 5 to come out during the Holiday season of 2020, entering a close race with Microsoft’s Scarlet Project slated to come out at the same time frame, everyone has been wondering what games we’ll be able to play when the consoles come out. We’ve already known that Halo Infinite will launch alongside Xbox Scarlett, but Ubisoft has now announced its first games for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett.

The Montreal-based games giant and creator of the world-popular Assassin’s Creed games announced that Rainbow Six Quarantine, Watch Dogs Legion, and Gods and Monsters will come out for the two upcoming consoles, and will launch for play on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The first games for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett were announced during a Q&A session about Ubisoft’s earnings planned for the first half of the 2020 financial year, as per IGN. The company’s CEO Yves Guillemot said that the mentioned games will come out after being previously delayed from early 2020 release dates, as reported by MarketScreener which says that Ubisoft’s planned game slots were initially moved from the early months of 2020 into the fiscal 2020-21 year.

Guillemot also said during the session that not only will the new games come out for the new consoles, but they’ll also utilize the new futuristic features both consoles offer. Earlier this month, a new patent for PlayStation 5 AI voice assistant leaked, hinting the new games could possibly use the assistant to help gamers progress through the gameplay if the rumors are correct.

Aside from Watch Dogs, Rainbow Six and Gods and Monsters, Ubisoft plans to feature two more AAA games in the same fiscal year, although they remain unnamed and have yet to be announced. Perhaps, one of them will be a new Assassin’s Creed game. There’s no 2019 installment of the game, given that Ubisoft mostly has the tradition of featuring an Assassin’s Creed game every year. Instead, the company decided to extend support for last year’s Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, and provide more content, according to GameSpot.

“The five titles will be on this generation and next generation of consoles, and they will take full advantage of all the new features that are coming with the machines. Which are actually going to be extremely interesting for players, as you’ll be able to download new content a lot faster,” Guillemot was quoted by IGN. “Players will experience better framerate, so there are lots of very good elements that will come with those new machines.”

As IGN further states, there’s no clear revelation to when Ubisoft’s first games for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett could come out, although it’s more probable to happen during the Holiday months rather than the summer months given that the consoles are expected to come out at that time. The specific dates could likely be revealed during next year’s E3, as well as the titles of the two mysterious games that are in the plans.
