A Resident Evil 3 remake could be released next year

Updated on

A Resident Evil 3 remake is reportedly in the works after Capcom saw significant success with its Resident Evil 2 remake. A YouTube channel’s sources confirmed what other sources have said about a remake being in the works. Now we’re hearing that it could be released as soon as next year.

Resident Evil 3 remake slated for 2020 release

YouTube channel Spawn Wave, which has some 360,000 subscribers, said the Resident Evil 3 remake could be released sometime in 2020. The remake of Resident Evil 2 was released in January 2019. Capcom had said that if fans showed interest in the remake of RE2, then more remakes could be in the cards.

Spawn Wave said it’s unclear when in 2020 the Resident Evil 3 remake will land. It could be in January, a year after the previous remake, or it could be released later in the year. However, he also said it seems a bit late now for a January release because nothing official has been said about it yet. If a January release had been planned, the announcement probably would have been made at E3, just as the reveal of the RE2 remake came at E3.

He speculated that the game could be announced at The Game Awards, noting that RE2 has been nominated for Game of the Year. If the announcement doesn’t come at The Game Awards, he expects an announcement before E3. He suggests that a Halloween or holidays 2020 release could work quite well. More details

Video Games Chronicle reports that its sources have also confirmed a Resident Evil 3 remake is in the works at Capcom, although the release timeline is unclear. The gaming blog also noted that the RE2 remake was released 21 years after the original game came out on the PlayStation. Sales of the RE2 remake reportedly approached 5 million units, further underlining the success Capcom has enjoyed with it.

It seems likely that the Resident Evil 3 remake will reuse some of the work that was done for the previous game, including the RE engine, which received plenty of praise from fans. The 21st anniversary of the original Resident Evil 3 will be in September 2020, so there is a chance Capcom could target the fall for a release date.
