Apple offers plenty of money-related services, such as Apple Cash, Apple Pay and the Apple Card. At times, it could be a bit confusing to understand what services do what. Apple Cash: what is it?
Apple Cash is tied to Apple Pay. When someone sends you Apple Cash, it goes into your virtual Apple Cash card, which is linked to the Wallet app on your iPhone or iPad. You can use this cash to buy apps, make purchases in stores and on the web. Additionally, you can also transfer this money directly to your bank account. As well, you can securely send and receive Apple Cash from anyone.
Apple does not charge anything to send, receive, or request money using Apple Cash. Also, Apple Cash in no way affects your credit score. You can also use Siri to send cash to a friend or a family member.
Separately, if you own an Apple Card (Apple’s credit card), then you can use the Apple Cash to pay the Apple Card balance. The money in the Apple Cash card comes from a debit card or the money sent to you in the form of Apple Cash.
Now that you know the importance of Apple Cash, let’s talk about the requirement to set up the Apple Cash card (not Apple Card). The following are the requirements:
- You must be at least 18 years old and live in the U.S.
- You will need an iPhone or iPad that supports Apple Pay and runs iOS 11.2 or later. If you own an Apple Watch, it must run watchOS 4.2 or later.
- Your device must have two-factor authentication configured for the Apple ID.
- You must also have an eligible debit card saved in the Wallet app.
The following Apple devices support the Apple Cash card:
- iPhones with Face ID or Touch ID (not the iPhone 5S)
- iPads with Face ID or Touch ID
- Macs with Touch ID
How to set up Apple Cash card
Now let’s talk about how to set up the Apple Cash card. Following are the steps:
First, open the Wallet app. If Apple Pay is already set up on your device, you will see the black Apple Cash card.
Second, tap on the Card, and select “Set Up Now.”
Third, tap “Continue” after you land on the next screen. Wait for a moment and the Apple Cash Set Up window will come up.
Fourth, tap “Continue” again. If you have not already saved a debit card on your phone, you will be asked to set up one. You can also add it later, but unless you do it, you won’t be able to send money.

First, launch the Settings app on your iOS device signed into the iCloud with your Apple ID.
Second, tap on “Wallet & Apple Pay.”

How to use Apple Cash
Now, let’s talk about how to use Apple Cash. Following are the steps to send Apple Cash:
First, open the Messages app. You can either go into an existing conversation with the person to whom you want to send cash or start a new one.
Second, below the message field, there will be an Apple Pay button, tap it. If you don’t see the button, then tap the Apps icon to get it.
Third, use the plus or minus buttons to adjust the amount that you want to send.
Fourth, you can also add a message along with the payment.
Fifth, to send the cash, tap the black circle with a white arrow.
It must be noted that the money in your Apple Cash card will be used first to make the payment. If there is no money left on the card, then the debit card tied to your phone will be charged.
Now, let’s see the steps to request money via Apple Cash:
First, open the Messages. Go into an existing conversation with the person from whom you want to receive money or create a new thread.
Second, tap on the Apple Pay button.
Third, enter the amount you wish to receive. You can also add a message.
Fourth, tap “Request” and then tap “Send.”
You can also send Apple Cash through Siri. All you have to do is activate Siri, and say “Send $30 to XYZ” or “Apple Pay $30 to XYZ for movie.”
