New Americans Act

While the Trump Administration continues to push an anti-immigrant agenda, the “New Deal for New Americans Act” would bring positive solutions including the establishment of a National Office on New Americans to support immigrants and refugees in the U.S. It would create grant programs for organizations to provide immigration legal services, English language learning, and workforce training initiatives. The bill would also eliminate obstacles, such as financial barriers and English language requirements for certain age groups, to obtaining U.S. citizenship. The measure would also create a system that registers newly naturalized individuals to vote. In addition, it would amend current law to no longer allow deportation of an individual deemed to be a public charge.

The lawmakers will be joined by numerous immigration advocates who will speak about the importance of investing in proactive, workable, and humane solutions to support immigrants and refugees. The legislation is endorsed by 62 immigration organizations and two cities.
