Democrat Jessica Cisneros Campaign raises nearly $460,000 in bid for Texas’ 28th congressional district
Cisneros reports over $310,000 raised in Q3 of 2019

LAREDO, TX – Today, Jessica Cisneros, an immigration and human rights attorney running for Congress in Texas’s 28th district, announced that she had raised over $310,000 in the third quarter of 2019. This brings the campaign’s total to over $459,000 raised since her campaign launched in June and leaves her with nearly $300,000 in resources to fund her effort to bring a new voice to represent the people of South Texas.
Cisneros’ campaign is a true grassroots effort, including contributions from over 14,200 individual donors — and thousands of Texans — and an average contribution of just over $32 this cycle. By contrast, last quarter, Cisneros’ opponent Rep. Henry Cuellar raised approximately the same amount, but almost half of his total — about $153,000 — came from PACs and special interest groups, not individuals.

“Jessica is humbled by the incredible outpouring of support for her campaign from almost 3,000 Texans and thousands more across the country,” said Campaign Manager Danny Diaz. “These numbers show we’re building a real grassroots movement, and unlike her opponent — who voted with President Trump almost 69% of the time last Congress and raises nearly half his money from corporate special interests and PACs — Jessica’s values reflect voters across South Texas. In Congress, she’ll support providing access to healthcare for all Americans, common-sense immigration reform — not Donald Trump’s wall — and bringing true representation to the people of her community.”
Cisneros’ campaign to fight for working families is not only gaining momentum on the ground in the district, but across the country, earning endorsements from Senator Elizabeth Warren, Sunrise Movement, as well as Justice Democrats.
“Everywhere I travel in the district, I hear from Texans who are fed up with Washington politicians serving corporate special interests and wealthy donors rather than our communities,” said Cisneros. “Our district deserves better, and that’s why I’m not accepting a dime from corporate PACs or lobbyists. In Congress, I’ll advocate for the values and concerns of real people down here in South Texas, not corporate special interests.”
Cisneros and her team are proud that their fundraising outpaces even past Congressional primary challengers, including Marie Newman in IL-3, who raised $76,000 in the same period during her first bid in 2017 and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who raised less than $60,000 in all of 2017.
