Here Are The First Official Details On The OnePlus TV

Updated on

We heard rumors earlier this month that OnePlus is coming up with its first TV. The rumor is confirmed now, and the Chinese company has revealed the name and logo of its first TV.

OnePlus’ TV will simply be called OnePlus TV. According to OnePlus, it chose a very simple moniker based on the suggestions from fans and the names suggested by winners of the contest on its forums.

“We believe there’s no other name that can best represent our value, vision and pride than naming it with our own brand,” a company representative said.

Along with the name, the Chinese company also revealed a logo. The logo is simply the OnePlus logo with the word “TV” next to it. The OnePlus logo may not jump out at you, but it has some significance.

“We were inspired by classic geometric progression, which can be seen from so many classic art forms, such the ancient Hindu symbol, the mandala, and the famous ancient Greek temple,” the company said.

OnePlus first talked about its intention to enter the TV market in September last year, but has not talked much since until now. Even now the company has not revealed the specifications of the TV. However, it was reported previously that the company will come up with a range of LED models between 43 and 75 inches supporting Android TV but with a “unique” skin.

In terms of design, the company says the TV will follow its “burden-less” design philosophy. Talking of the release date, there are no official details. However, as per reliable tipster Ishan Agarwal, the OnePlus TV could arrive sometime next month. More details on the OnePlus TV will be revealed soon as the company has asked the fans to “stay tuned as there is more exciting news coming soon.”

OnePlus is not the first Chinese smartphone maker to add a TV to its product lineup. Just last week, rival Honor came up with its VISION smart TV with a pop-up camera. Another rival Xiaomi has been selling smart TVs since 2013.

In separate news, OnePlus recently rolled out software updates bringing some of the OnePlus 7 Pro features to OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T smartphones. Along with the new features, the update brings Android’s August 2019 security patch, along with several bug fixes and improvements. The update includes fixes for issues for when apps fail to respond when in use, and for the apps unlocking via fingerprint when the screen recorder is on.

The update version is OxygenOS 9.0.8 for the OnePlus 6 and OxygenOS 9.0.16 for the OnePlus 6T. OnePlus’ latest update brings Fnatic mode, DC dimming support, Quick Reply option in Landscape mode, optimized pocket mode, Zen mode and a new password setting in Hidden Space to the older OnePlus phones.

OnePlus introduced Fnatic mode for the first time with the OnePlus 7 Pro, adding dedicated gaming settings to the phone. This new mode focuses on CPU, GPU and memory for gaming. Talking of the DC dimming feature, it reduces the strain on the eyes. With DC dimming, the screen stays constantly lit to prevent eye strain from the PWM (pulse-width modulation). However, this feature may lead to lower color accuracy at lower brightness settings.

Separately, OnePlus has put an Easter egg into its latest phones – OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro. One can find the Easter egg in the Fnatic mode settings (Settings > Utilities > Gaming mode). To activate the Easter egg, you will have to tap the Fnatic logo five times. After you tap the logo, a text box will pop up where you will have to enter the word “alwaysfnatic” without the quotes.

Once the text is entered, the Easter egg is unlocked with the Fnatic logo animation and you will get three new wallpapers with the Fnatic logo. After you get the wallpaper, you can add it to your default wallpaper collection.

In other OnePlus-related news, a new OnePlus 7T Pro leak has revealed the launch date of the device. Since the OnePlus 3 in 2016, the Chinese company has resorted to a biannual refresh cycle for the smartphones. In the second half of the year, the company launches the “T” variant, such as the OnePlus 6T, 5T and so on.

The same is expected this year as well with the OnePlus 7T Pro coming later this year. Talking of its release date, a recent tweet from tipster Max J. reveals a launch date of October 15. This release date is in line with the past launches. For instance, the OnePlus 6T came in October, while OnePlus 5T and 3T came in November.

There was no OnePlus 4 or 4T as the number four is considered unlucky in Chinese tradition. Thus, OnePlus jumped from the OnePlus 3T directly to the OnePlus 5.
