Unc0ver Jailbreak For iOS 12.4 Now Available For Download

Updated on

In good news for the jailbreak community, hacker Pwn20wnd has finally released the Unc0ver for iOS 12.4. The iOS 12.4 is the latest signed and available firmware version of iOS with support for Apple Card.

On Sunday, Pwn20wnd released the Unc0ver 3.5.0 to jailbreak iOS 12.4 and announced the same on Twitter.  The developer noted that the new version of Unc0ver comes with the following changes: “Add iOS 12.4 support to the Sock Puppet (A8-A11) and Sock Port (A7-A7X) exploits.”

As per hacker Jake James, Apple patched both of these exploits in the iOS 12.3, but for reasons unknown, it “un-patched” them. Pwn20wnd, however, notes that though the jailbreak works on iOS 12.4, the success rate of the software is lower than those on the previous versions of iOS.

This Unc0ver for iOS 12.4 comes as big news for the jailbreak community as not often there is a jailbreak for the latest iOS version. Also, even if you are on iOS 13, you can downgrade to the iOS 12.4 to jailbreak it.

The Unc0ver for iOS 12.4 supports all devices up to A11. This means that the iPhone X is supported but not the latest iPhones, including iPhone XS, XS Max, XR and the 2018 iPad Pros.

The following are the devices compatible with Unc0ver Jailbreak v3.5 – iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 5s, iPad Air and 6th gen iPad.

You can download Unc0ver for iOS 12.4 from this link, and then jailbreak your compatible iOS device. After jailbreaking the device you will get access to the Cydia Installer and Cydia Substrate. A point to note is that there is no Unc0ver support for iOS 12.3. This means if your iPhone or iPad is running at iOS 12.3, then you will have to update it first to iOS 12.4 and then jailbreak it.

If you are going for the iOS 12.4 jailbreak, there is one thing that you need to know. Apple has long been saying that using Apple Card on a jailbroken device may result in a terminated credit card account due to ‘”security reasons.”

“If you make unauthorized modifications to your Eligible Device, such as by disabling hardware or software controls (for example, through a process sometimes referred to as “jailbreaking”), your Eligible Device may no longer be eligible to access or manage your account,” reads the Apple Card user agreement.

Before you go for the jailbreak, there are a couple of prerequisites. First, you will have to delete any iOS 12 OTA update file by going to the Settings -> Storage, and then reboot the device. Second, take a backup of all your important data before attempting to jailbreak your device.

To jailbreak your device using Unc0ver for iOS 12.4, first download the latest Unc0ver version. After downloading the latest version, install it. Next go to Settings-> General -> Device Management, click the developer name and trust the certificate. This certificate is needed to launch the Unc0ver jailbreak app on your iOS device.

Now, open the Unc0ver and click the Jailbreak button. Wait until you see the Cydia icon on your home screen. If the app freezes during the process, then don’t worry, it will become active again. In case it does not unfreeze, try to reboot the iOS device and repeat the process again.

Prior to this Unc0ver v3.5, Pwn20wnd updated the jailbreak tool to version 3.3.7 last month. In a tweet last month, the developer noted that the new version updates the Sock Port exploit on 4K devices. This version was welcomed by the users experiencing reliability issues with the earlier versions.

Also, it improved the performance; with the jailbreaking tool prior to 3.3.7, users would normally have to wait for six seconds for some functions. However, with the new version, the wait time dropped to just two to three seconds.

Separately, talking of the iOS 13 jailbreak, there have been proofs that the upcoming version will have a jailbreak, but so far, developers have not released anything. This does not come as a surprise as developers would wait for the final version before releasing anything. If they release anything now, Apple may quick patch it in the beta version.

Last month, Pwn20wnd even revealed that Cydia is working fine on a pre-jailbroken iPhone on iOS 13.

“If anyone’s wondering, I can confirm that Cydia works fully fine without any changes on iOS 13.0 :-). (Tested on a pre-jailbroken installation with @CorelliumHQ,” read the tweet from Pwn20wnd.

Pwn20wnd also talked about Substrate, noting that it also worked on iOS 13, but will need some edits. Apple is expected to come out with iOS 13 sometime next month.
