Here’s How You Can Fix iOS 12.4 Unc0ver Jailbreak Issues

Updated on

Apple reportedly unpatched a bug in the latest public iOS version available, leaving the iPhones vulnerable to hacking and jailbreaking. There are no reports of hacking for now, but several iPhone users have claimed that they were able to jailbreak their iPhones running on iOS 12.4 using Unc0ver successfully. Some users, however, who tried using the Unc0ver jailbreak for iOS 12.4 faced some issues. Many of these are common issues and can be easily fixed. Detailed below is the solution to fix iOS 12.4 Unc0ver jailbreak issues. One of the most common issues that users are facing is the 8/31 Debugging Exploit Crash/Reboot. This issue appears with Unc0ver 3.5.3 when getting to stage 8/31. To fix the issue, download the Unc0ver 3.5.2 IPA to jailbreak the device, notes a report from Redmond Pie. Another issue is the 2/31 Reboot. To overcome this issue, you will have to remove the Unc0ver 3.5.3 app and sideload the version 3.5.2 release using Cydia Impactor. One more frustrating issue that is affecting jailbreak users is Cydia opening and crashing. When Cydia crashes, Unc0ver also appears to freeze. If this happens, then do a full reboot and invoke the Unc0ver process again. As per Redmond Pie, the issue might occur due to the device getting stuck in the non-jailbroken state even if everything suggests that the jailbreak has been successful. So, if you are also facing the above issues, you can use the above tricks to fix iOS 12.4 Unc0ver jailbreak issues. Do let us know in the comments section below if the above solutions helped you fix iOS 12.4 Unc0ver jailbreak issues. If you are facing any other issue, then do tell us that as well. More issues are expected to come to light as more users start to use the Unc0ver jailbreak for iOS 12.4. The Unc0ver jailbreak for iOS 12.4 is reportedly the result of a mistake on Apple’s part. Apple’s alleged mistake has led to the development of the first free public jailbreak for the latest iPhones. Apple came out with the iOS 12.4 on July 22, 2019. The new version came with several fixes, including a patch for a Walkie-Talkie security flaw and updated Apple News+ experience. Moreover, the iOS 12.4 also laid the groundwork for the release of Apple Card. Apart from these, the new version also included a code tweak – though accidentally – that has the potential to allow users to jailbreak their iPhones. Apple engineers might be upset with this, but the mistake apparently created a history. It paved the way for the first public-facing jailbreak on an up-to-date firmware version, something that hasn’t happened for the past many years. Prior to this, jailbreak developers and security researchers only played catch-up with the latest iOS version. What’s disappointing on Apple’s part is that they were aware of this exploit previously as they fixed it in the iOS 12.3. However, the exploit was unpatched in iOS 12.4, allowing developers like Pwn2ownd to quickly implement it in Unc0ver for the benefit of the jailbreak community. Apple will surely fix the vulnerability with the future iOS release. However, it is not known if the fix will come with the next iOS 12.4.x release or with the iOS 13, which is due sometime next month. Security researchers, however, feel that the fix could come with iOS 12.4.1. “Due to 12.4 being the latest version of iOS currently available and the only one which Apple allows upgrading to, for the next couple of days (till 12.4.1 comes out), all devices of this version (or any 11.x and 12.x below 12.3) are jail breakable—which means they are also vulnerable to what is effectively a 100+ day exploit,” Jonathan Levin, a security researcher, said, according to Vice. Apple’s mistake has also left iPhones vulnerable to hacking. Pwn20wnd, the developer behind the Unc0ver jailbreak, said that Apple’s mistake could be used to design perfect spyware. Speaking to Motherboard, the developer said that a hacker could infect a malicious app with an exploit for this bug that could then steal user data. Another way the mistake can be exploited is for the hacker to include the exploit in a malicious webpage, and then pair it with a browser exploit. “It is very likely that someone is already exploiting this bug for bad purposes,” Pwn20wnd told Motherboard. Security experts are now warning users to be careful of the apps they download. “I hope people are aware that with a public jailbreak being available for the latest iOS 12.4 people must be very careful what Apps they download from the Apple AppStore,” Stefan Esser, a researcher who teaches iOS hacking, said in a tweet.
