The President Is Not A Racist

“I don’t have a racist bone in my body.” President Donald J. Trump
Is it possible that Donald J. Trump is not a racist, after all? Given all the fake news about our embattled leader, could this be just another progressive plot against an innocent man?

Only three years ago, during the first Republican presidential debate, Fox News’s own Megyn Kelly mercilessly asked Trump a loaded question about all the derogatory things he had said about women. Surely that proved him to be a misogynist. But Trump’s followers quickly sprang to his defense by pointing out that he had also said plenty of derogatory things about men.
So perhaps it’s déjà-vu all over again. After the president suggested that U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota be sent back to her native Somalia, the crowd at his recent North Carolina rally broke into a chant of “Send her back! Send her back! Send her back!” Donald J. Trump appeared be in agreement with that sentiment. But did that make the president – and his adoring fans – racists?
Trump would also like to send three other progressive members of Congress back to the lands of their ancestors. Just because they all happened to be women of color did not mean they would be deported because they weren’t white. In fairness, that same adoring crowd, and President Trump himself, could come up with a long list of white potential deportees, perhaps headed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
The message is that if you don’t think this is the greatest country in the world with the greatest president in history, then you should live someplace else. Less elegantly put: Why don’t you go back where you came from? How is that racist?
Even the great civil libertarian, South Carolina Republican Senator Lyndsey Graham, has astutely observed that the four Congresswomen are “a bunch of communists.” Graham is no racist: the man is an American patriot!
Senator Graham and his new best friend, Donald J. Trump, want to deport four American citizens because of their repugnant political views – and not because of the color of their skin. Hey, didn’t Martin Luther King once say something about the relative importance of the color of one’s skin and the content of one’s character?
Now, in fairness, it must be acknowledged that the president does not always take criticism well, and that, on occasion, he does have a tendency to overreact. So, when he told his four political opponents to move back to their countries of origin to help fix their horrendous problems, he was just making a constructive suggestion.
And while he suggests that political dissidents be deported, it is completely unfair to claim that these four women were singled out because they were not white. As Donald J. Trump has often pointed out “I don’t have a racist bone in my body.”
