Here Are Best-Selling Games On PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch In US

Updated on

With current-generation consoles inching toward the end of their lives, gamers, industry experts and gaming analysts are interested in knowing the best-selling games on each current-gen console. NPD Group has come up with an answer to that and has published a list of best selling games on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch in the U.S.

Mat Piscatella, an analyst for The NPD Group, revealed the list in a series of tweets. The list includes “life to date through May 2019” game sales. It must be noted that the list of best selling games on the PS4 and Xbox One include both digital and physical game sales. On the other hand, except for Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, all other games for the Switch include only physical sales.

The list is mostly as expected except for the fact that the top game on the PS4 and Xbox One is the one that was originally released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. This game is Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V of which about 110 million units have been shipped worldwide.

Talking of other games in the list, Marvel’s Spider-Man and God of War took the sixth and eighth spot on the PS4. Marvel’s Spider-Man was the top selling console exclusive for the PS4. On the other hand, no Xbox One’s exclusive is on the list of best-selling games on Xbox One.

Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 is at the second spot on the PS4 list, while on the Xbox One list, the game is in the fifth spot. At the ninth spot on PS4 is the 2017 NBA 2K18. DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront from 2015 is at the eighth spot, while Destiny 2 is at the tenth place on the Xbox One.

For the Nintendo Switch, on which every game is exclusive, the first spot is taken by Mario Kart 8. The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is at the second, while The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is at third. As was expected, the Mario games took five spots on the Switch’s list of best-selling games.

One interesting observation in the list of top-selling Xbox One games is that five (out of ten) games belong to the Call of Duty franchise. These games are 2014’s Advanced Warfare at fourth, 2016’s Infinite Warfare at sixth, 2018’s Black Ops 4 at fourth, 2015’s Black Ops 3 at third and 2017’s WWII at second. Call of Duty: WWII, Black Ops 3 and Black Ops 4 were among the top five on the PS4 list as well.

In separate news, Sony is again raising the price of PlayStation Vue, its streaming TV service. Now, each PlayStation Vue multi-channel plan will cost $5 more. Existing subscribers won’t be charged anything extra until the start of their first billing cycle after July 31.

For new customers, however, the new pricing starts now. So, the basic plan now costs $50 per month, up from $45. Explaining the reason behind the price bump, PlayStation Vue general manager, Dwayne Benefield, said it is due to the rising annual costs of available content.

“We constantly evaluate each deal to ensure we continue to deliver the content you want while considering the overall value of each package,” Benefield said in a blog post.

Recently, YouTube also raised the price of its YouTube TV service, which offers paid TV packages with a bundle of channels, to $50 a month.
