Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is now available for Android and iOS users to download and play. The game comes with several unique features, including giving players the ability to make their own wand. The game offers several customization options to enable users to make a wand in Wizards Unite.

If you are a Harry Potter fan, you will know the importance of wands in the books and movies, so you will want to make a wand in Wizards Unite for yourself. Although the wand has no effect on gameplay, it is a fun way to customize your character in the Harry Potter universe.

Among the customization options are length, the type of wood, core, and flexibility of the wand. You can create your own combination or choose an already-set combination to mimic the wands of popular characters in the Harry Potter series.

For instance, if you want Harry Potter’s wand, you should choose the following combination:

  • Wood: Holly
  • Core: Phoenix Feather
  • Flexibility: Reasonably Supple
  • Length: 11 inches

Those who want Hermione’s wand must choose:

  • Wood: Vine
  • Core: Dragon Heartstring
  • Flexibility: Unknown
  • Length: 10 3/4 inches.

Ron Weasley’s wand is willow with a unicorn hair core and 14 inches in length. Rubeus Hagrid’s wand is oak wood and 16 inches (broken), while Bellatrix Lestrange’s wand is walnut wood, with a dragon heartstring core and measures 12 and 3/4 inches. Those who want Albus Dumbledore/The Elder’s wand must select elder wood, a thestral tail hair core and 15 inches in length, while Voldemort’s wand is yew wood with a phoenix feather core and measures 13 and a half inches.

There are more options to choose from, such as the wands of Minerva McGonagall, Neville Longbottom, Draco Malfoy, Cedric Diggory, Viktor Krum, Lily Potter, James Potter and more. To learn more about the wands, you can visit this link.

If you are unable to decide or make a wand in Wizards Unite for yourself and want to leave your wand’s choice up to fate, then there is a small randomizer button. You can always register for a new wand for free by going to the “Wand Weighing” menu.

To change your wand, open the Ministry ID and click on the wand. Now choose from the available options for wood, core, flexibility, and length, and then press “Register.” Again, the wand has no impact on gameplay and serves a cosmetic purpose only for now.

On a side note, if you have played Pokemon Go and are now jumping over to Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, you will find a lot of commonalities. For instance “Spell Energy” in the new game is similar to “Poke Balls” in the earlier title. In the Harry Potter game, you will need spell energy to cast spells, which is similar to throwing a poke ball.

Another similarity is the purpose that inns in Wizards Unite and Pokestops in Pokemon Go serve. Inns work like Pokestops and help players get more spell energy. Similarly, fortresses in Wizards Unite can be seen as equivalent to gyms in Pokemon Go. In a fortress, you will find a concentration of opponents to take on.

The two games share many more similarities, such as Foundables and Pokemon, Registry and Pokedex, Suitcase and Backpack, Portkey Portmanteau and Egg, Key and Incubator, Runes and Gym pass, and dark detector and Lure module. Such similarities between the two AR games must not come as a surprise, considering that they are both from Niantic. However, many feel that Wizards Unite may fail to generate the same level of excitement that Pokemon Go generated.

“Unfortunately, after playing Wizards Unite for a few days, it’s clear that Niantic and Warner Bros. haven’t managed to build on the foundation that Pokémon Go laid in 2016. It’s more like a fresh coat of Harry Potter paint on top. Simply put: there’s just no magic left in the AR collectible formula,” The Verge’s Chaim Gartenberg says.

However, it is still quite early to jump to a conclusion. The game is now available in over 140 countries in North America, Europe, Asia, South America and Africa. Niantic promises to roll out the game to more countries soon. In countries where the game is available, users can download it for free on both iOS and Android.
