How To Jailbreak iPhone XS, XS Max And XR Using Chimera

Updated on

Jailbreak fans will be excited to hear that there’s finally an easier-to-use tool to jailbreak devices running on iOS 12. The Electra Team released Chimera this week, and it’s the first jailbreak covering iOS 12 through iOS 12.1.2. This step-by-step guide will help you jailbreak an iPhone XS, XS Max or XR using Electra’s Chimera tool for iOS 12.

A faster and easier-to-use jailbreak for iOS 12

Redmond Pie reported on the details of the Chimera jailbreak, which was designed to be faster and safer for the amateur jailbreaker to use. It relies on a CoreTrust bypass and is an entirely new solution to replace the incomplete unc0ver jailbreak tool that was released earlier. Chimera is said to be more stable than the unc0ver tool and should offer improved battery life management.

The iOS 12 jailbreak tool also includes the package manager Sileo, which follows on the heels of Cydia. This can considered good news since the creator of Cydia appears to have gotten burned out by all the clamor from jailbreak fans demanding updates to Cydia Substrate. Sileo makes it easy to download and install tweaks with only a basic understanding of them.

The Chimera tool is also important because it supports all iPhone and iPad models which are currently on sale. However, unfortunately, it is still a semi-tethered tool like unc0ver, which means if you ever need to reboot your iOS device, you will have to perform the jailbreak again.

How to jailbreak your iPhone XS, XS Max or XR on iOS

Redmond Pie put together a guide to help you jailbreak an iPhone XS, XS Max or XR, and we’ve simplified it for you. First, you’ll need to download Chimera here and have Cydia Impactor installed on your Mac or PC, which you can get here.

Next, connect your iPhone XS, XS Max or XR to your Mac or PC using the correct cable and launch Cydia Impactor. The program will automatically bring up the device you have connected in its user interface.

Drag and drop Chimera into Cydia Impactor and enter your Apple ID and password at the prompt. This will sideload Chimera onto the iOS 12 device and sign it with your Apple ID. After installation, go to Settings > General > Profiles & Device Management to look for the correct profile for the installation. Tape “Trust” and then “Trust” a second time.

Leave the Settings app and then open Chimera, which brings up a basic interface with a prominent button labeled “Jailbreak.” After tapping the button, the tool will jailbreak your iPhone XS, XS Max or XR and then display a message after it has been successful. This process will also install Sileo, which will enable you to easily download and install tweaks.
