How Galaxy S10 5G caught fire?
A South Korea man claims that his Galaxy S10 5G caught fire just days after buying it. The man, identified as Mr. Lee, says that his Galaxy S10 5G was just six days old when it caught fire after overheating.
“My phone was on the table when it started smelling burnt and smoke soon engulfed the phone,” Mr. Lee told AFP. “I had to drop it to the ground when I touched it because it was so hot.”
Mr. Lee claims that when his Galaxy S10 5G caught fire, it was lying flat on a table and was not even connected to a power source. After the incident, Mr. Lee took the device to Samsung’s authorized repair center, but was disappointed with the response he got even after waiting for two weeks.
Samsung refused to offer a replacement or even a refund (of about $1200) on the grounds that the Galaxy S10 5G caught fire due to an external impact and not an “internal glitch.” Mr. Lee, however, alleges that when the phone caught fire, he had to drop it to the ground, and this could have caused the external damage.
As of now, there are no comments from Samsung over the matter. Also, it is not known if the company is even investigating the incident. Mr. Lee uploaded the images of his burnt Galaxy S10 5G on a South Korean web site.

As of now, it is not clear what caused the phone to overheat and then catch fire. It must be noted that the Galaxy S10 5G sports a bigger battery pack than other Galaxy S10 models. The handset features a 4,500mAh battery, the biggest ever from Samsung. Also, for the first time, the Korean firm is offering 25W fast charging support.
For now, there is no other option but to believe what Samsung is saying. Since the Note 7 fiasco, the company has released two generations of phones without similar issues. On the other hand, if what Mr. Lee is saying is correct we may (hopefully not) hear more such incidents once the device reaches more hands.
Samsung’s Galaxy S10 5G debuted in South Korea just a few weeks ago, and will launch in the U.S. on May 16. The company is already accepting orders for the phone in the U.S.
This fire incident comes as unwanted bad news for the Korean firm, which is already grappling with the screen issues with its foldable phone. Also, Samsung reported a 56.9% drop in net profits earlier this week.
