Galaxy Fold Game Of Thrones Edition Announced

Updated on

Game of Thrones might be over now, but it will surely live on in the memories of fans for many years to come. To ensure that this does happen, Russian luxury phone accessory maker Caviar has announced a special Galaxy Fold Game of Thrones edition.

What to expect from the Galaxy Fold Game of Thrones edition

Caviar is known for making a customized golden phone, but this time, it has gone a step further by announcing a special-edition Galaxy Fold, which has yet to hit the market after its release was postponed due to screen issues. This special-edition phone is dedicated to the Game of Thrones TV series and the yet-unreleased novel by George R.R. Martin called The Winds of Winter.

“…..being inspired by its shape reminding a book, created a precious design dedicated to the most expected book of the modern time – ‘The Winds of Winter’, a missing part of the novels cycle by George Martin, which lies in the base of the ‘Game of Thrones’ series,” Caviar said in a press release.

Caviar has designed the special-edition handset to look like a mystical book. The prototype of the Galaxy Fold Game of Thrones edition shows the handset’s outer panels covered in golden elements. These golden elements are based on Game of Thrones, which finally ended last week.

Images of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros can be seen on the front and back. On the top, one can see a dragon, while near the bottom, there’s a lion and wolf. The title of George R.R. Martin’s next novel, The Winds of Winter, is on the side of the phone.

Toward the rear, one can find an etched map of Westeros and another golden frame with a dragon up top and several figures throughout. There is no design on the interior to ensure it does not interfere with the foldable display. Caviar’s design also features a latch to keep the phone locked when not in use.

Caviar has released a video showing the details of this special-edition phone.

Ultra-premium price tag

According to the Russian company, it will make only seven units of this special-edition phone, based on the seven houses in the series. One of the seven units will reportedly go to George R.R. Martin as a aign of respect for his masterpiece. These special-edition handset are now available for pre-order.

“The start of sales will begin with the opening of the official Samsung Fold series,” the company said.

According to Caviar, it created the design using a test sample of the Galaxy Fold.

If you are in Russia, you will have shell out RUB499,000 (or about $7,700) to get your hands on the Galaxy Fold Game of Thrones edition. For those in other regions, this special-edition phone is priced at $8,180, or about four times the Galaxy Fold’s price tag of $1,980. Such high pricing is justified, considering that Caviar will make only seven units.

Along with the Galaxy Fold Game of Thrones edition, Caviar will be offering two simplistic designs as well. These designs will feature carbon, leather and of course gold.

Best Buy cancels Galaxy Fold pre-orders

It is not clear for now when buyers will be able to get their hands on this special-edition phone. Although Caviar has said sales will start after the release of the Galaxy Fold, it is not yet known when the Galaxy Fold will hit the market.

There were reports recently that Samsung has fixed the issues with the Galaxy Fold and that it will soon announce a release date. However, there has not been any communication from the Korean firm regarding the release date. The last we heard from Samsung was when it asked early buyers to confirm their orders.

The lack of comment from Samsung was already a bad omen for Galaxy Fold fans, but now things could get even worse as Best Buy has reportedly canceled all pre-orders of the phone. The reason for canceling the pre-order is the lack of a release date for the Galaxy Fold.

In an email sent to customers, Best Buy said with “breakthrough designs and technology come many hurdles and the possibility to face a plethora of unforeseen hiccups.” Such issues have forced Samsung to delay the release date, and it has not provided a new release date either, the email reads, according to The Verge.

Further, the email states that Best Buy has decided to cancel all current pre-orders for the Galaxy Fold “because we put our customers first and want to ensure they are taken care of in the best possible manner.”
