OnePlus has gained immense popularity in the last few years by selling ‘affordable premium‘ smartphones. The company is set to unveil the OnePlus 7 series on May 14 at simultaneous events in New York, London, and Bengaluru. Ahead of the official unveiling, the Chinese company is hyping up the flagship OnePlus 7 Pro. There is little talk about the standard OnePlus 7, which is expected to be a minor upgrade over the OnePlus 6T. The Pro variant will be much more exciting.
Just a few days ago, OnePlus ran a full-page ad in The New York Times. The ad read, “No bells & whistles. No bezel. No notch. No app lag. No bloatware. No 2000 price tag. No random music. Just a better phone. OnePlus 7 Pro.” The ad shows the outline of the phone with some of its internals.

OnePlus 7 Pro to get HDR10+ support
On Monday, the Chinese company revealed that the flagship OnePlus 7 Pro would feature HDR10+ support, which will enhance the experience while watching videos and playing games. The company has promised that the upcoming flagship would offer butter smooth experience. We already know the Pro model would have a 90Hz display refresh rate and Quad HD+ Super AMOLED display.
Testing firm DisplayMate recently reviewed OnePlus 7 Pro and gave it an A+ rating. The phone has also received the “Safe for Eyes” certification from VDE, thanks to its ability to filter out blue light. DisplayMate praised the device for its brightness, color accuracy, contrast, and pixel density.
HDR10+ is an upgraded version of HDR10 standard. An HDR10+ certified display can produce up to 4,000 nits of peak brightness. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau said in a statement that HDR10+ support on OnePlus 7 Pro would “set a new benchmark for the smartphone industry and open up a new world of visual fluidity for users.”
An HDR10+ display offers adaptive frame-by-frame adjustments for contrast and brightness to ensure that each scene is adequately visible. It is found mostly on UHD TVs and 4K Blu-ray players. Samsung’s latest Galaxy S10 and S10+ also support the HDR10+ protocol.
The first smartphone to support UFS 3.0 storage
OnePlus chief executive Pete Lau said in a tweet that the flagship OnePlus 7 Pro would support the cutting-edge UFS 3.0 storage. It will be the first phone to get the UFS 3.0 storage technology, which would make it “overall faster than comparable smartphones.” The UFS 3.0 will bring major improvements in sequential read and write speeds with more than double the bandwidth per lane, according to XDA Developers.

The new storage technology will allow OnePlus 7 Pro to provide faster app launches, faster boot, and will make almost every operation quicker. Flagship devices from Samsung and other vendors are still stuck on UFS 2.1 storage, which has a maximum data rate of 11.6Gbps per lane compared to 23.2 Gbps for UFS 3.0. Samsung’s Galaxy Fold gets the UFS 3.0 storage, but its launch has been delayed.
What else you need to know about OnePlus 7 Pro
The OnePlus 7 Pro would have a bezel-less design with no notch. The Chinese company has used a 16-megapixel pop-up selfie camera to eliminate the need for the notch. It will have a triple camera setup on the back. The device will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 octa-core processor with Snapdragon X50 modem to offer 5G connectivity. The company has confirmed that the Pro version would be a 5G device.

Tipster Ishan Agarwal has revealed the OnePlus 7 Pro pricing details for the Indian market. OnePlus has already started taking pre-booking in India via Amazon. According to Ishan, it is going to cost Rs 49,999 for the base model with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The 8GB+256GB version is going to cost Rs 52,999 and the top of the line 12GB+256GB is going to set you back by Rs 57,999.

The standard OnePlus 7 would be a minor upgrade with a more affordable price tag. According to reports, it will retain the waterdrop notch, and lack the higher resolution and faster refresh rate of its Pro sibling. Also, it will have only two lenses on the back instead of three.
